Irish boxing fans in Greater London will have an opportunity of supporting a strong Irish selection when they take on an England select side at Selhurst Park, home of Crystal Palace Football Club on Wednesday next, 25th May.
Commonwealth Games champion, Paddy Gallagher from the Gleann BC and AIBA World Youth bronze medallist Michaela Walsh (Holy Family GG) have been named in the seven-strong Irish side ,in an event in aid of the CPFC Youth Academy.
Sean Kilroy, Gavin Keating, Rory O’Donoghue, Jamie Dowling and Jimmy Sweeney will also represent Ireland at an event which will be attended by several high profile British boxers including James Degale and former champions Lloyd Honeyghan ,and the McKenzie brothers from nearby Croydon.
The English ABAE is expected to announce its side at the weekend, and is likely to include several of the boxers who featured in last week’s ABAE Elite Championship finals.
Seven fights are lined up for the evening’s black tie event as well as a superb three course meal, a sporting auction and a raffle.
Keith Walters, Chairman of the ABAE said: “This is a unique venue which provides a fabulous backdrop to what I can guarantee will be an evening of fantastic quality boxing between the male and female athletes of two great boxing nations.
“It will be a great showcase for some of the sportsmen and women who could well become household names in the future.”

There have been close links between Crystal Palace FC and the Irish community in South London for many years – among the Irish players who have represented the club are Paddy Mulligan, Jerry Murphy, Steve Staunton,Clinton Morrison and Ray Houghton whilst the current squad includes such as Captain
Paddy McCarthy, Owen Garvan and Sean Scannell.
