Donegal overcame a determined South Down team along with extra time to advance to the final of the Lori Meagher Cup where they will face Tyrone who defeated Warwickshire in the other semi-final.
In what was a very close game it was Donegal, led by Niall Campbell who scored eleven points, that were the marginally better team over the course of the game. Donegal started the brighter and soon established a healthy lead. They poured on the pressure and at one stage of the game scored 1-04 to no reply.
To their credit South Down refused to be kept down and they fought back and took the game to Donegal. Down scored a goal on the stroke of half time to send the teams in at the break level on 1-08 each.
The second half was a poor affair and as the game went into the last ten minutes it was still all to play for. Neither team was able to get the winning score so the game headed into extra time where Donegal stepped up a gear and moved ahead of South Down.
South Down only managed to score one point in extra time and in the end ran out of steam which allowed Donegal to win by a comfortable three points in the end. Donegal will now head to Croke Park to face Tyrone to determine who will be the 2011 Lori Meagher champions.
