Clare footballer Graham Kelly, has been hit with a 10-week suspension after clashing with John Miskella in last Sunday’s Munster Senior Football Championship quarter-final.
The wing forward became involved in an off-the-ball incident with Miskella and as he had already been booked earlier in the match, the referee was left with no option but to show the Clare man the line.
To add injury to insult, Kelly was clearly seen trying to headbutt Miskella right in front of referee Eddie Kinsella before leaving the pitch. Todays punishment, which adds up two months for the headbutt and two more weeks for a repeat offence within the 48-week window, means the player will now miss the championship until July 30.
Going on previous seasons, it is likely that Clare will be out of the running by then, unless they go on an extended run in the qualifiers. In all probability, Kelly has played his last game of the current championship.
