Bohs leave it late to beat Dundalk

Ger O’Brien and Anto Flood’s, late, late show gave Bohs a 3-1 win at Oriel Park and give them three back to back wins to lift the gloom at the crisis hit club.

The teams looked set for a point apiece when an Aiden Price own goal cancelled out Christy Fagan’s first-half opener for Bohs, only for O’Brien (83) and Flood (85) to win the game for Pat Fenlon’s battlers. With Ian Foster completing his UEFA Pro Licence course in the UK, the Lilywhites were under the watchful eye of assistant Darius Kierans.

Former Yeovil attacker Aiden Downes was named among the Bohs subs. The 23-year-old received the green light to sign on amateur forms just hours before kick-off.

Dundalk came into the game on the back of scoring 13 goals in their previous three outings and they almost got off to a dream start when Keith Ward hit a free-kick just wide.

Bohs went ahead in the sixth minute. The concession of a corner led to Price heading Killian Brennan’s delivery back across the Lilywhites’ six-yard box where Fagan was on hand to glance home from close range.

Dundalk opened the second half with intent and Mark Quigley and Marc Griffin both went close. Bohs ‘keeper Barry Murphy was then called into action when Ross Gaynor’s free-kick skidded off the head of Ger O’Brien.

The equaliser duly arrived on the hour mark. Gaynor whipped in a cross and this time Murphy was helpless to stop the ball flying past him. Griffin turned away in celebration but it looked like the crucial touch came off Price’s head.
Bohs, though, had the last laugh with O’Brien and Flood beating Peter Cherrie with shots from distance.
