Leitrim manager Martin Moran has dropped Wayne McKeon from the panel because of disciplinary issues.
The Ballinamore Sean O’Heslin’s clubman who was man-of-the-match in Leitrim’s Connacht championship win over Sligo will now miss Leitrim’s clash with Down this weekend.
Speaking to the Leitrim observer, Moran refused to reveal the misdemeanour that saw McKeon leave the panel telling the newspaper that “Wayne McKeon put himself in a position that he had to be told to leave the panel. Wayne McKeon was dropped off the panel.
‘It has been sorted out in-house, disciplinary reasons and that is all I’m going to say about it but he was dropped, not left the panel.
‘We have high standards, the lads signed up to a Players charter which they drew up and unfortunately, this individual couldn’t live up to those and there was no option but to drop him.
‘I want to make that quite clear because at the end of the day, when I hear that he has left the panel, that is not true.’
‘Let’s put it like this here, our lads sacrifice for a whole year, their social lives put on hold, their whole family life, their work has to come around that and you cannot justify to any lad leaving him off the 15, leaving off the 26, or leaving him off the panel if somebody else is not committing.’
‘So for the best interests of the team and the squad, the decision was made that Wayne McKeon is dropped.’
