Preview Bray v Derry City

Derry City’s Gerard Doherty is expecting a tough encounter at Bray Wanderers this evening, but he admits the Candystripes will be aiming for another three points.

The Brandywell men go into tonight’s clash at the Carlisle Grounds on the back of a super home victory over league champions Shamrock Rovers last week, but the City goalkeeper knows it’s going to be just as difficult against Pat Devlin’s men.

“To be fair to them they have improved 10-fold over the last year and they have a lot of dangerous players and, as everybody knows, it’s a hard place to go to.

“But we have prepared right this week and after a good result last week hopefully we can cement it a wee bit more with another win at Bray.”

Derry have already won 2-1 at Bray this season, while at the Brandywell in May the home side had Doherty to thank for a share of the spoils, but since then the Seagulls have had a dip in form in recent weeks.

Prior to returning to winning ways at UCD last Friday they had suffered four defeats in a row but Doherty isn’t taking anything for granted.

“Before that bad spell they were second in the league and were up there on merit, so that goes to show you how good a team they are this year and how dangerous they are going to be to play against,” added the former TNS keeper.

After this evening’s match, City entertain Dundalk next Friday before the league shuts down for two weeks, and Doherty believes two victories would set them up nicely for the final 12 league games of the season.

“We have had a good return from the recent wee mini section of fixtures. Stephen (Kenny) always breaks it up, and the last few games we have had good results so we are just trying to keep it going, to be honest.”

Derry welcomes back Gareth McGlynn and Eddie McCallion to their squad while Bray will be without suspended midfielder Gary Dempsey. will have live score updates on all GAA Championship matches over the summer.
