McCarthy named in Irish squad

James McCarthy has returned to the Irish squad for next month’s friendly against Croatia at the Aviva Stadium .

The Wigan midfielder missed the Carling cup fixtures and the qualifying clash with Macedonia due to an ankle injury, however he is now fit and looks set to add to his 3 caps for his adopted country.

Marc Wilson and Jonathan Walters, who also missed those encounters, are also included while Kevin Doyle returns to the squad for the first time since his injury against Macedonia in the March clash.

Sunderland’s new signings Keiren Westwood and John O’Shea are also included with Stephen Ward, who impressed in the Carling cup, keeping his place in the squad.
