Irish Open Swimming finals preview & results

The 2011 Irish Open Youth/Senior Long Course Championships got under way today at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.

The competition represents the culmination of the competitive season for Irish swimming clubs and this year the event has attracted a large number of overseas teams, attracted by the standard of competition and world class facilities available in Ireland for swimming.

In total, 29 visiting teams are competing in Dublin this weekend, including delegations from the UK, France, Egypt and Croatia.

There are 46 Irish clubs entered. Double Olympian Andrew Bree, swimming for Ards SC, was amongst those competing today and took Gold in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke as the first placed Irish Swimmer (29.22).

The event continues until Sunday, with heats beginning at 9:30am each day and final’s at 4:30pm each evening.

Meanwhile, a number of Irish swimmers are competing in Sheffield this week. After a strong performance in the morning heats at British Age Groups the Irish Team returned to the pool in the afternoon for the Finals session for some exciting swims.
