West Ham United has made the first official move for Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long.
However their offer of 7 million pounds with add-ons has been rejected by Reading although it is believed that Sam Allardyce is weighting an improved second bid for the 24 year old.
The Tipperary native is in demand this summer after hitting 25 goals last season and Newcastle, Everton and West Bromwich Albion have all expressed an interest in him.
A move to West Ham appears unlikely to materialise however with Reading having told Long, who has a year left on his contract; he can join a Premier League club, if the price is right, after they failed to gain promotion.
