The organizers of the Dingle Marathon today announced that Blue September has come on board as an official charity partner to the Dingle Marathon 2011, which takes place on 3rd September 2011.
Blue September is a concept developed in New Zealand in 2008 and having taken off in Australia , America and in the UK , it is now in Ireland . It is part of a growing global initiative to encourage men to face up to cancer and the campaign in Ireland will have five beneficiaries including Cancer Care West, Marie Keating Foundation, Mater Foundation, Mercy University Hospital Foundation and Prostate Cancer Institute.
A whole host of personalities have come on board to back the Blue September campaign including Leinster rugby stars Seán O’Brien, Isa Nacewa and Devin Toner and while Kerry might be famous for the green and gold, what better way to kick off a whole month of charitable activity than by turning Dingle blue on the 3rd September!
One of the Blue September ambassadors is Leinster and Ireland rugby star Shane Jennings: “I would urge people to get involved in the Dingle Marathon but also to get involved on behalf of Blue September. This great cause raises awareness of men’s health and raises money for important charities all over Ireland . Have a bit of fun with it and paint your faces blue on September 3rd.”
With less than 40 days to go until the Dingle Marathon, organiser and Limerick native Ken Dunne said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be organising the third running of the Dingle marathon and I am delighted to be able to support Blue September.
“One of the main objectives of the Dingle Marathons is to support our partner and associated charities in raising as much money as possible and we wish Mícheál and the whole team in Blue September the very best of luck in the coming weeks and months in raising awareness and money for what are five hugely worthwhile recipients.”
Mícheál Sheridan on behalf of Blue September commented: “Blue September is delighted to be involved with the Dingle Marathon for 2011.
“Our campaign encourages men to face up to cancer and promotes the need for them to take better care of their health thus reducing their cancer risks. We see a very strong link between the Dingle Marathon and our message around men improving their lifestyle and exercising regularly. We are looking forward to a wonderful event on one of the most marathon routes in the world.”
