Galway recovered from a slow start in Pearse Park this afternoon, to defeat Cavan by three points and book their place in the All Ireland minor football championship semi finals.
Cavan led by 0-4 by 0-1 early on and looked in control of this contest before Galway midfielder Sean Moran popped up to score what proved to be the crucial goal of the afternoon. Conor Finnegan scored a point to narrow the gap further and the Tribesmen hit another score just before the break to get right back into the game.
The sides were level soon after the restart and went ahead shortly after. Shane Walsh was in excellent form for the winners and his points from placed balls helped make the difference at the finish. He hit two in a row but Andy Graham and Ciaran Brady replied for the Ulster side.Kevin Bouter narrowed the gap even further with a fine point for Cavan but Walsh hit another late on to ensure the Tribesmen held their three point lead.
Cavan tried hard to claim the all important goal late in the game but even in added time they were unable to break down a strong Galway defence. In the finish, the men in maroon did just enough to join Roscommon in the last four of the competition.
