‘Well stay top as Daly downs Hearts

Motherwell stay top of the SPL after a 0-0 draw with Kilmarnock, Darren Randolph enjoying a second successive clean sheet as Stuart McCall’s side continue their impressive start to the season.

Ally McCoist enjoyed his first competitive win as Rangers manager as goals from Steven Naismith and Nikica Jelavic saw them beat St Johnstone. The win moves Rangers up to second place in the table, a point behind Motherwell. Cillian Sheridan played 70 minutes before coming off for Carl Finnigan.

Aaron Doran made his first appearance of the season but couldn’t prevent Inverness from slipping to a second successive defeat. Jonathan Hayes and Richie Foran started for Inverness with summer signing Doran coming on after 58 minutes. Graham Stack enjoyed his first clean sheet and win of the season with Garry O’Connor’s 90th minute goal sealing the win.

St Mirren’s unbeaten start to the season continued at St Mirren Park as they beat Aberdeen 1-0. David van Zanten and Jim Goodwin both featuring for the buddies with Waterford born midfielder Goodwin booked in the first half.

Sunday’s SPL action saw Jon Daly’s header gave Dundee United the points away to Hearts. The goal was made in Ireland with Daly converting Willo Flood corner in the 38th minute. Flood was later booked for a foul, while 27 year old Dubliner Sean Dillon enjoyed a first clean sheet of the season playing in an unfamiliar left back position.

Hearts threatened in the second half with former Sunderland striker Stephen Elliott getting a first start of the season up front alongside Jon Sutton. Elliott, in for the suspended Jamie Hammell, played 70 minutes and went close on a number of occasions without finding the back of the net.
