Some of the great names of football are coming to Sligo on Saturday August 6th as Manchester United Legends take on the Sligo Rovers Legends in Gerry Carr’s Testimonial at the Showgrounds.
The United side will include some of the best players to have ever lined out for the club, with an impressive haul of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League winners medals between them. Included in their ranks will be Ireland legends Denis Irwin, Frank Stapleton and Alan McLoughlin alongside Lee Martin, David May and Quinton Fortune
Carr is a former player and currently the assistant manager to Paul Cook. He famously scored the winner for Sligo Rovers in the 1994 FAI Cup Final and he will be taking to the field alongside many of his team-mates from that day including Will Hastie, Eddie Annand, Gavin Dykes, Willie McStay and many more former Rovers greats.
Tickets cost €15 for adults and €10 for children and are available from Jako Sports, Markievicz Road, Sligo, Elvery’s Sports, Johnston Court, Sligo, and Barton Smith, Hyde Bridge, Sligo. In conjunction with the game, a dinner dance will be held in the Best Western Southern Hotel on the night. Tickets are €50 per person and a table of ten is €500. Three of the United legends will be guest speakers at the dinner.
This is an afternoon not to be missed and provides football fans in the region with the chance to see some of the greatest names that have ever played with Manchester United and Sligo Rovers.
