Kevin Keane was the victor this time out following on from a 4th place in the Olympic Distance National Championships just last weekend. The winning margin was just 4 seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher Aodh O’Neil who made up serious ground over the 7km run, with 2011 ‘Hell of the West’ Champion Mike Yelverton in 3rd.

Little Bo Peep
The Little Bo Peep Triathlon organised by the expanding Kenmare Triathlon Club since 2007 also took place on Saturday 6th of August.
Over 200 competitors travelled to the scenic west coast to take part in the Olympic Distance challenge. The competition was tough but it was ex professional triathlete Trevor Woods who took the spoils in a savage time of 01:56:13. Eric Wolfe took 2nd in 01:58:37 and Michael Buckley was 3rd in 02:01:30. Woods did much of the damage in the swim exiting the water in under 18 minutes and in 4th position. He then put the hammer down of the bike leaving top swimmers Spriggs and King behind.
The women’s race was won in convincing fashion by Katie Cooke in 02:13:24. Vanessa Fenton was 2nd in 02:19:22 and Katie Fitzgerald was 3rd in 02:21:00. All 3 women were in contention out of the water but it was the bike on this occasion that was the deciding factor and the discipline where Cooke pulled away.
