This weekend sees Triathlon Ireland Elite athletes Aileen Morrison, Gavin Noble and Bryan Keane competing in the Tiszaujvaros World Cup in Hungary. Along with the aforementioned senior elite athletes, Triathlon Ireland is sending two promising juniors, Russell While and Chris Mintern.
Morrison is tipped as a podium possibility just a week after her 18th position in the hotly contested World Championship Series race in London. Morrison is making steady progress in the season so far with High Performance Director, Chris Jones pleased with her results in the past few months. This will be an opportunity to continue the consistent performances needed for Olympic Qualification.
The men’s race will be equally as competitive with 75 taking to the start line. Among them is Ivan Rana of Spain who goes tipped as one to watch after his break away performance in London last weekend. Noble will be keen to make amends after the disappointment of coming off the bike on a greasy bend in London. Noble was not seriously injured but will be hoping the cuts and bruises received don’t affect him too much.
The junior race takes place on Saturday the 13th and will be raced in a new trial format which includes a Preliminary Heat consisting of a 500m Swim, 13.2km Bike and 3.2km Run. The top 10 athletes from each preliminary and the next best 5 times will then progress to the final which is raced over the same course as the heats.
