Newly promoted Swansea’s quest for premiership safety begin in the cauldron of Eastlands as they take on a Manchester City side which are amongst the favourites for the title (8pm kick off).
The Swan’s are the first Welsh side to play in the Premier League and will enter their first top flight campaign since 1983 as overwhelming favourites for the drop.
Despite having no household names Brendan Roger’s side play a brand of football that is very pleasing on the eye and similar to Blackpool very attack minded, all of which should mean plenty of goals and surprises, with tonight’s televised encounter with City a perfect chance to show the rest of the Premier League their intentions.
City meanwhile begin their campaign with expectations at an all time high. Last season’s FA cup win has not to mention the summer capture of Sergio Aguero has many believing that Manchester City could land a first title since 1968.
The build up to the new season has not being helped by the uncertainty over Carlos Tevez and the Argentine, who only returned to training this week following an extended break will not feature in tonights game.
That means that the former Inter Milan coach will pair Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli up front for with record signing Sergio Aguero set to start on the bench, although the indications are that the former Athletic Madrid star will enter the fray at some point.
Meanwhile Swansea could be without Captain Gary Monk who is struggling with a foot injury and could miss out.
However Brendan Rogers, who revealed he was wanted as assistant manager at Manchester City after leaving Reading, could hand debuts to summer signings Danny Graham, Leroy Lita, Wayne Routledge and Steven Caulker.
