Preview Ladies SFC : Dublin v Cork

TG4 Senior Championship – Quarter Finals (live on TG4)

Cork v Dublin, St Brendan’s Park Birr, (Offaly), 4.00pm, (J Niland)

Without a doubt, this is the game of the year so far, defending All-Ireland champions Dublin against 2009 champions Cork .

The Jackies made a shaky start to their defence of the title bowing out of the Leinster Championship to Meath at the semi-final stage but in fairness to Tommy Brown and his players they have since racked up two good wins over Kildare and Galway in the qualifiers.

There has also been a noticeable spread of scorers this year with Noelle Healey, Lyndsey Peat, Lyndsey Davey and of course the ever reliable Sinead Aherne all chipping in with decent returns in their games. This augurs well as they come face to face with Cork’s miserly defence.

Noel O’Connor and his management will be pleased as Cork have performed consistently well this season in both League and Championship. To date wins over Clare and Kerry in the Munster Championships resulted in yet another Munster title and the only concern is the six week layoff since that game.

These two teams were tipped as favourites at the beginning of the championship and there is no reason to think any different now. Both will fancy their chances of progressing to the semi-final stage and don’t be surprised if extra time is required to separate them. A tentative nod to the Leesiders.

Cork: E Harte, AM Walsh, A Walsh, D O’Reilly, B Corkey, B Stack, G O’Flynn, J Murphy, A Walsh, N Cleary, M Kelly, G Kearney, V Mulcahy, R Ní Bhuachalla, A O’Shea (c)

Dublin: C O’Connor (c), G O’Malley, J O’Sullivan, S Goldrick, G Fay, S Furlong, A McKenna, D Masterson, N McEvoy, N Healy, E Kelly, L Peat, L Davey, S Ahern, A Ring
