Conor Niland is through to the second round of the US open qualifier’s after beating Pavol Cervenak in straight sets.
Niland, currently ranked 199 in the world, won 6-1 6-4 against the Slovak who is 39 places below in the rankings.
Niland will now face Chinese Taipei’s (Taiwan) Tsung-Hua Yang who is 223rd in the world in the 2nd round.
The Limerick man is just two matches away from following up his first round Wimbledon appearance with a second appearance in the main draw of a grand slam tournament.
Another Irishman Louk Sorensen, who has recently returned to Tennis after retiring earlier in the year, will face Spain’s Arnau Brugues-Davi today.
