Three early goals kill Wednesday
Three goals in the first ten minutes gave Blackburn Rovers a straight forward victory over League One Sheffield Wednesday in the 2nd Round of the Carling Cup. The game was a potential bananna skin for Steve Kean’s men but they came out of the traps with all guns blazing a secured a comprhensive and morale boosting victory following two League defeats from two.
New signing Ruben Rochina struck in the third and fourth minute to give Rovers a perfect start. The game was over when David Goodwillie scored his first goal for Rovers inside ten minutes. Following their unbelievable start, the home side took the foot off the gas and that meant a dull game with few chances following the three early goals.
Gary Megson’s Owls would have fancied a cup upset but were poor from start to finish. The League One side did pull one back after the break when veteran striker Clinton Morrison scored past Mark Bunn.
