Ruby Walsh has confirmed a return date to the saddle, however it will not be, as he hoped, at the Listowel festival which starts on September 11th.
The multiple times Irish champion jockey has been sidelined since he crushed vertebra in his neck and torn ligaments in a fall from Friendly Society at the first flight of a handicap hurdle at Killarney on July 12.
It forced the jockey to miss the Galway festival for the second year running where he would have ridden Galway Plate winner Blazing Tempo.
Speaking on the injury today Walsh said “The neck brace is off me, thankfully, and I’m hanging in there.
“The neck is feeling good and I’m going to have it x-rayed someday next week and that should tell me more, but I’m not quite sure if I’ll be ready to return in time for Listowel. It could well be the week after, but it’ll definitely be sometime in September.”
Walsh has been plagued with injuries over the last eighteen months having suffered shoulder and leg injuries which has hampered his career over the last while.
