Munster have announced the signing of Will Chambers on a short term deal. The Queensland Reds centre/wing is set to join the Magners League champions subject to a medical and obtaining a valid work permit.
The 23 year old will be a valuable addition to Tony McGahan’s squad and at 6ft3’ the back is a formidable presence in any back line. Speaking on the signing, McGahan said he could prove crucial to Munster’s success during the absence of their players at the World Cup.
“We’re delighted to be able to secure the services of a quality player whose experience gleaned at Super 15 club level will stand us in good stead in the immediate future while our players are on RWC duty and in the crucial period of the Heineken Cup Pool stages.”
Williams began his rugby career playing rugby league for Melbourne Storm before switching to Union in 2010. He signed a 2 year deal with the Queensland Reds and has already scored five tries for the Reds.
In other news there is one change to the backline, three up front is what Munster are serving up for the trip to Glasgow and the RaboDirect PRO12 clash with Sean Lineen’s Warriors on Friday night (7.30).
That sole backline change sees Simon Zebo slot into the left wing berth at the expense of Denis Hurley who picked up a slight hamstring strain in last Saturday’s gamewhile in the front row, Tony McGahan by and large just reverses the order from last weekend, with Wian du Preez, Damien Varley and John Hayes starting on this occasion ahead of Marcus Horan and Stephen Archer. Mike Sherry misses out with a shoulder knock sustained against Dragons.
