Dromore v Ardboe
A dramatic, last-gasp injury time point from Dromore secured this weekend’s Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final replay against rivals Ardboe on Sunday at Edendork, Tyrone. (Throw in 3pm). In an unprecedented situation this is just one of three replays in the championship to take place this coming weekend and this particular tie forms the first part of a double header on the day.
Dromore and Ardboe played out a scintillating match that saw Colm McCullagh score the equaliser from a long range free with almost eight minutes of injury-time on the clock. The 2009 county champions should feel fortunate to have escaped with the draw as seven time winners Ardboe were in command for the majority of the game and will rue missed chances.
This was a repeat of the epic 2009 final and Ardboe’s Kyle Coney turned in performance of the highest quality and his teammates will hope he reproduce that form, to put them through to the semi-finals. They scored a five point victory over Greencastle in the first round where Coney scored five points, four from play.
Dromore have plenty of experience and quality in county players Ryan McMenamin, Sean O’ Neill and Eoin McCusker. The Blue and White easily put away a disappointing Moy side in the first round 1-14 to 0-6, McCusker scoring 1-7, and have been consistent in the league where they currently lie third, six points adrift of leaders Carrickmore.
This will be another tight, tense encounter and both teams will look to their experienced players for leadership. Dromore, with their inter-county prowess, will once again be slight favourites but Ardboe will know they are a whisker away from getting one over their nearest rivals and advancing to the semi-finals.
