Kenneally qualifies for Olympic Marathon

Kildare’s Mark Kenneally has become the first Irish marathon qualifier for the London 2012 Olympics.

Kenneally originally from Celbridge and running out of the Clonliffe harriers running club had just failed when he ran 2:17.22 in Vienna last April, but looked in peak condition, after sleeping in a portable altitude tent as part of his training.

Crossing the line in an unofficial time of 2.13.55, Mark was 65 seconds inside his goal of a sub-2:15 for the Amsterdam marathon, which was good enough for the A standard qualify time for the Olympic marathon.

We will have more on this story shortly.

Nominated for 2011 Realex Web Awards
