Britton prepares for European Cross Country

Fionnuala Britton (Kicoole AC) competes in the VIII Cross de Atapuerca in Burgos, Spain on Sunday 13th of November.

This IAAF International Cross Country event will provide Britton with a quality competitive race as she continues her build up to next month’s European Cross Country Championships in Slovenia.

The Wicklow woman, who finished in an agonising fourth place at last year’s European Championships, got her season off to a good start when winning the Gerry Farnham Cross Country in convincing style in October. She will be joined by Brothers Dan and Michael Mulhare (North Laois AC) and Mark Hanrahan (Leevale AC) who will compete in the men’s event. Team coach is Anne Keenan Buckley.

Athletics Ireland will also be sending a team to compete in the McCain UK Cross Challenge in Bristol on the same day. This race provides up-and-coming athletes the opportunity to match themselves against established cross country stars in competitive fields.

The Junior men’s team is Kevin Dooney (Raheny AC), Sean Tobin (Clonmel AC), Liam Brady (Tullamore AC) and Stephen Kerr (Armagh AC). While the Junior women’s team includes World Youth Walk Gold Medallist Kate Veale (West Waterford), Mary Mulhare (North Laois) and Emma Mitchell (Banbridge AC). While Claire Gibbons- McCarthy (Leevale AC) competes in the Senior Women’s event. Team Coach is Robert Denmead.
