Following on from last weekend’s impressive win over Chelsea Liverpool heads into another big clash this weekend with league leaders Manchester City set to visit Anfield.
On Sunday Kenny Dalglish got his tactics spot on, especially in the first half, as Liverpool kept Chelsea at bay. Key to that were the performances of the back five of Pepe Reina, Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger, Martin Skertel and Luis Enrique.
Johnson in particular reminded everyone that he is still a fantastic right back with the winning goal at Stamford Bridge and Kenny will be delighted that the England right back has finally put his injury problems behind him.
Agger meanwhile has also impressed since his return from injury, looking composed at the back in the absence of Jaime Carragher and the tall Dane’s form should mean that the Skertel partnership remains intact for the City game.
In the middle of the park, Charlie Adam and Lucas will no doubt form the middle pairing with the Scot hoping for more of the cross field passes that led to Johnson’s winner and less of the poor set piece delivery that marred Sunday’s game.
Outside it looks like Kenny will stick with Maxi after his goal scoring performance against Chelsea while Jordan Henderson has impressed from the bench of late and could oust the more defence minded Dirk Kuyt on the right.
Up front, Andy Carroll looks set to miss out after a solid performance from Bellamy who should be keen to prove a point against his old club while Luiz Suarez has assumed the mantle of playmaker and match winner in the absence of Gerrard this season and is no doubt the first outfield name on the team sheet.
