Trapattoni set for new Irish deal

Giovanni Trapattoni looks set to lead the Republic of Ireland into the 2014 World Cup qualifying series are it revealed he was close to signing an extension to his contract

The Italian is set to be offered a new two year extentions which will be on reduced terms of 1.5 million euro per year.

Trapattoni is set to travel to Dublin on Wednesday to sign the contract before making his way to Kiev for Friday’s draw for the Euro 2012 finals.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Trapattoni said “We have agreed in principle and everything is going forward but it is not signed,” .

According to The Independent Trapattoni has agreed to take a cut in his salary, dropping down from 1.7m euros a year to 1.5 million and will keep on current assistant Marco Tardelli and fitness coach Fausto Rossi in his backroom team.

It is believed that Irish businessman Denis O’Brien will once again continue to contribute a significant proportion of the Italian trio’s pay.
