World number one Caroline Wozniacki faces a battle to be fit for the Australian Open after her left wrist was heavily strapped during her defeat to Agnieszka Radwanska at the Sydney International on Wednesday.
The injury occurred in the deciding set of the match which Radwanska won 6-2 and she now has only five days to be fit before the start of the Australian Open on Monday. “I hope it’s not serious,” she told reporters. “I could feel it today, especially in the third set. I’m going to go get it checked out tomorrow and hopefully it’s OK. I should be completely fine for Australian Open. I started feeling it more and more during the match.”
There was also worse news for Wozniacki on Wednesday as she is guaranteed to lose her No.1 ranking to Petra Kvitova, If the world No.2 can win the final in Sydney, which is scheduled for Friday night.
