Ava Hutchinson qualifies for Olympics

An excellent run today by 28 years old, Ava Hutchinson from Dundrum South Dublic AC, in the Chevron Houston Marathon, saw her achieve the Olympic A Standard with a time of 2:35:33 well inside the standard of 2:37:00.

The Half-Marathon Champion has now joined her clubmate Linda Byrne,who achieved the standard during the Dublin Marathon running 2:36:21.

Another Irish athlete, Gladys Ganiel did not reach the Olympic standard today but finished in a very creditable 8th place with 2:40:56 just behind Great Britain’s Holly Rush who also narrowly missed the A standard time.

Meanwhile at the Internacional de Itálica, IAAF Cross Country Permit Meeting in Sevilla, Spain, European Cross Country Champion Fionnuala Britton finished eighth in 26.54. The race was dominated by African athletes with Linet Masi of Kenya winning in 25.42. Naddia Ejjafini of Italy who competed in the European Cross Country Championships got the better of Britton on this occasion finishing seven seconds ahead of her in seventh place.
