Medard could be out till year’s end

Maxime Medard; the man who scored France’s winning try in their hard fought win over Scotland has been ruled out of rugby for between six and nine months with a knee ligament injury sustained in that match.

It means the Toulouse full-back will miss France’s game against Ireland as well as the conclusion of the 2011-’12 Heineken Cup campaign.  Toulouse are on course for a repeat of last year’s titanic semi-final with Leinster and the Toulouse native will be a big loss to his hometown club.

Medard will have an operation on Monday and will be replaced by Clemont Poitrenaud in the national team ranks.
