WELLINGTON in Florida will see Ireland’s first show jumping team of 2012 line out for a Nations’ Cup competition.
Team Manager Robert Splaine has a squad of six at his disposal from which to choose a team of four for Friday night’s battle at the Palm Beach Equestrian Centre, and with 2012 being an Olympic year all riders will be keen to impress at this level.
Jennifer Crooks, Darragh Kenny, Darragh Kerins, Richie Moloney, Cian O’Connor and Shane Sweetnam comprise the Irish squad at Wellington, and Splaine will announce his team selection later tonight (Thursday).
Darragh Kenny took third place in the show’s Welcome Stakes on Wednesday night on Lipton de l’Othian, with Brazil’s Rorigo Pessoa and HH Palouchin claiming the trophy.
Meanwhile Denis Lynch campaigns three horses at Bremen in Germany this weekend, while Spanish sunshine continues to attract a large number of Irish riders warming up for the season ahead, with five at Vejer de la Frontera and 13 at Valencia.
Mark McAuley is Ireland’s sole representative at the two-star show in Nice, France this weekend, while Bertram Allen and Trevor Coyle fly the Irish flag at Ghent in Belgium.
Follonica in Italy sees Thomas Ryan with a total of seven horses, while at Vidabaun in France Anna Merveldt, Dane Rawlins and Judy Reynolds are Ireland’s dressage competitors in the three star event, where Olympic ranking points are on offer.
