Golf classic in aid of Cork hurler

Charleville GAA club have an organised a golf classic in aid of Des Fitzgerald;  a footballer who suffered temporary paralysis sustained during a Cork JHC semi-final last year.  He has been in the National Rehabilitation Centre in Dublin for the past six months and will undergo physiotherapy for two years with the aim of regaining as much mobility as possible.

Fitzgerald, who is to get married in a few months time, was speaking to RTE Radio One’s Morning Ireland programme this week saying: “I’m pretty determined that I’ll get back as close to where I was and that hopefully I’ll have my own life.”

Charleville, who took part in the AIB All-Ireland club JHC final in Croke Park last month, are raising funds to help with Dessie’s continued rehabilitation.
