Irish hockey fans will hope Malaysia beat Korea in the ‘Road to London’ Olympic qualifier at Belfield on Thursday.
Ireland play last placed China at 6p.m. on Thursday in the competition where the top two in the final league table progress to a final with only the winner going to London. Ireland will be confident of overcoming the Chinese and extending their three match unbeaten run after a 1-1 draw with the Koreans.
After hammering Ukraine 12-0; Ireland have a healthy goal difference of +17 which could prove pivotal come Saturday evening when the final table for progression to the final qualifying match will be decided.
On an injury front; Cork’s Conor Harte will miss the remainder of the competition after shipping a heavy blow to the head in the clash with Korea. Harte was stretchered off the field and brought directly to hospital for observation overnight, though he is reported to have remained fully conscious throughout.
Ex Pembroke Wanderers man Stuart Loughrey, who is now playing with Loughborough in England will take Harte’s place in the Irish line-up.
