Team news ahead of the Premier League clash between Manchester City and Sunderland
Manchester City can return to the top of the Premier League table, for 48 hours anyway, with a win over Sunderland on Saturday.
Roberto Mancini’s side will be boosted by the return of defender Vincent Kompany.
The Belgian has missed City’s last four games with a hamstring injury however he revealed his intention to return on Saturday on twitter, telling his followers “Just had my second training session with the team,”
“If all goes to plan I will be available for the Sunderland game.”
Mancini also looks set to have a fully-fit Carlos Tevez at his disposal after the Argentine striker enjoyed a goal scoring appearance in the 6-1 reserve win over Morecambe. Tevez could replace Sergio Aguero in the starting eleven with the former Athletico man struggling with a foot injury.
A shock win for Sunderland would catapult them above Liverpool into seventh however Martin O’Neill will need to rally his troops after the midweek cup exit to Everton.
The Black Cats went down 2-0 to the Merseysiders and captain Lee Cattermole is hoping his team mates can produce an improved performance at the Etihad.
“The lads are hurting, but they’re going to have to come out and respond,” Cattermole told BBC Newcastle.
“We are going to find out about their characters on Saturday.”
