Alex Ferguson has named his team to face Blackburn at Ewood park this eveningm kick off 8pm.
Blackburn sandwiched a Boxing Day draw at Anfield and a 2-3 win at Old Trafford on New Year’s Eve (Alex Ferguson’s 70th birthday) with home defeats to Bolton and Stoke. This inconsistency has kept the 1994-’95 Premier League champions towards the bottom of the Premier League table all season and they are currently only above the trap door on goals scored.
Having faced much animosity and calls for his removal from the club throughout the season; Rovers’ manager Steve Kean had apparently turned things around with two recent wins taking them six points clear of the drop zone. Defeat at Bolton has taken the Trotters above the Blue and Whites however. That result combined with the fact that QPR and Wigan won over the weekend – the latter producing two wins in a row for the first time this season); mean Blackburn are far from safe yet and their battle against relegation looks set to go to the wire for them this season just like last.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was keen to underscore goalkeeper David de Gea’s improvement since he struggled in Blackburn’s win at Old Trafford. He said: “David has stood up as a man. He got a grip of it, he didn’t let it get to him and the boy has improved every game.”
United have won at Ewood Park on only two of their last 11 visits, so this is not a very happy hunting ground for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men.
