Want to be one of the first Irish fans to compete at the Olympic Stadium in London ? Here Athletics Ireland tell you how you can have a chance of competing on the same track that will see such all-time greats as Usain Bolt compete later this Summer.
Powerade, the brand responsible for hydrating athletes at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has just launched a campaign offering amateur Irish sportsmen and women the chance to be the first Irish people to set their own 100m record at the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.
On Thursday 3rd May 2012, Powerade will be giving sports enthusiasts exclusive access to run 100m on the track at the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, with the fastest runners setting their own ‘Personal Bests’ in the stadium that will host the track and field events at this summer’s Games.
To be in with a chance of winning this once-in-a-lifetime experience, entrants need to simply register and participate in one of four ‘Powerade Ireland On Your Marks’ regional 100m race events. Simply register online at www.powerade.ie/onyourmarks for one of the four regional events and participate on the day to be entered.
The free Regional events, hosted in conjunction with Athletics Ireland, will take place in Connacht (Knocknarea Arena, I.T. Sligo) and Ulster (Antrim Forum) on the 14th April and Munster (Cork I.T.) and Leinster (Morton Stadium, Santry) on the 21st April.
The participants don’t need to be the fastest person in the World to win, they just need to be there and show their determination. At the end of each regional event every participant’s race number will be placed in a draw to win one of four places on the Powerade London 2012 Olympic Stadium Experience
Every participant will receive a Powerade ION4 Sports Bottle and can also get involved in the Race Ready Warm Ups on the day along with Hydration Testing and hints and tips from a Powerade Sports Scientist.
The Olympic Stadium experience will include travel to, and a tour of the stadium, expert advice on preparation and training techniques from Jessica Ennis’s coach Toni Minichiello, coaching tips from Derval O’Rourke, Powerade Ireland Brand Ambassador, and the chance to run 100m Irish track record in the same venue, which will see world-class athletes make sporting history during the Games this summer.
Derval O’Rourke, Powerade Ireland Brand Ambassador said; “This is an amazing opportunity for someone to run a 100m at the Olympic Stadium in London and set their own personal best, which will also be an Irish track record. The winners will get a chance to experience what it will feel to be an elite athlete runnning in the Olympic Stadium even before the athletes do! I am looking forward to being able to help the winners on the day with tips on how they can set their personal best on the 3rd May.”
Jennifer Branigan, Brand Activation Manager for Powerade Ireland, commented, “2012 is an exciting year for Powerade as we gear up to hydrate athletes during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We’re delighted to be offering sportsmen and women the opportunity to compete in the Olympic Stadium and create their own moment of sporting history. I’m sure it will be an unforgettable experience for the winner.”
Powerade is hydrating many of the Irish Team hopefuls in the preparation for and during the London 2012 Olympic Games. The Powerade Olympic Games Sports bottle is also available for free with promotional bottles of Powerade ION4 and Zero, purchased between now and Games time.”
