A selection of the weekend’s top sporting tweets

Ex Real Madrid striker Michael Owen was enjoying Spain’s El Clasico encounter between Barcelona and Madrid on Sunday evening, in which Messi and Ronaldo scored two goals each in a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp.

Best two players in the world on the scoresheet again. Their consistency is unbelievable. They hardly ever disappoint.

Formula one driver Lewis Hamilton took to twitter on Sunday evening to accuse his McLaren team-mate Jenson Button of lacking respect. Hamilton, who is leaving for Mercedes at the end of the season, claimed Button had stopped following him on twitter.

Just noticed @jensonbutton unfollowed, thats a shame. After 3 years as teammates, I thought we respected one another but clearly he doesn’t.

However, Hamilton quickly backtracked on his attack, and was forced into a grovelling climbdown after discovering that Jenson had never followed him in the first place!

My bad, just found out Jenson never followed me. Don’t blame him! Need to be on Twitter more!

Leinster rugby were in celebratory mood on Saturday evening as they came out victorious over their Munster neighbours at the Aviva, 30-21 being the winning margin.

The blue flags are raised as the full time whistle goes! Final score 30-21. #Allezlesbleus

Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney enjoyed playing a deeper role in his side’s 3-0 win at Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

Great win today. Really enjoying my new midfield role. Always involved in the game.

Holland and Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder will be very happy with his sides narrow 1-0 victory over their bitter rivals, thanks to a Walter Samuel header after just three minutes.

Thanks to all my followers… 1 MILLION….. Tomorrow the Derby Milan-Inter. What do you think??

In a weekend filled with local sporting derbies, the official Olympique Marseille twitter account was pleased to have come back from a 2-1 deficit to claim a 2-2 draw with second placed Paris Saint-Germain, thus remaining on top spot in Ligue 1.
