Coulter out of Ulster championship

Former All-Star Benny Coulter has been ruled out of the Ulster Championship after suffering a suspected broken ankle on Monday night.

Coulter turned awkwardly on the ankle during a  club match with Down manager James McCartan saying the county were already planning without him for the championship.

“It doesn’t sound good, so there is no point in saying otherwise. He’s potentially got a broken ankle, so we are planning without him,” said McCartan.

“It’s a huge blow for him. We had been trying to play it very carefully with Benny and hold him back when he wanted to play and only introduce him as a substitute, hoping that we would get the best out of him in the summer,”  McCartan continued.

Down meet Fermanagh in the first round on Sunday June 3 in Enniskillen.
