Dublin FC s/f Preview: St. Brigid’s v Ballymun Kickhams

St. Brigids will take on Ballymun Kickhams in the Dublin Senior Football Championship Semi-final on Saturday at 4.30pm in Parnell Park.

St. Brigids over came Ballyboden St. Enda’s by a ten point margin in the Quarter-Final to secure the hotly anticipated meeting.

A strong first half showing from the Russel Park men put them into an emphatic lead which they would never relinquish despite a late ralllying call from Ballyboden.

With Barry Cahill and John O’Loughlin on top at centrefield, Brigid’s led 1-7 to 0-4 by the half-time interval with Philly Ryan grabbing the goal with a precision finish in the tenth minute.

Brigid’s continued were they left off in the second half with Ken Darcy and Barry Cahill again getting on the score sheet.

Despite a late goal, the victory was beyond the Ballyboden outfit and St. Brigids will be hoping to take their positive attacking form into the crucial semi-final clash with both sides vying for a place in the 2011 Dublin Senior Football Championship Final.

Despite a good run of form for the St. Brigids outfit, Ballymun Kickhams will have other ideas as they look towards Saturday’s game on the back of a five point win over a fourteen man Parnells side.

A superb Elliot Reilly goal in the 19th minute looked to have handed the initiative to Ballymun as they moved 1-2 to 0-1 clear. They led by a one-goal margin at half time.

The turning point in the second half came on 23 minutes when the Coolock side lost midfielder Conor Talty after a second yellow card offence.

Despite the numerical advantage, it was not until inside the final minutes of the game when the Mun kicked three points in-a-row that they could feel safe.

Ballyman produced an impressive display of shooting with with sub Eddie Christie slotting two points and James Burke adding a third in the final moments as they used their extra man to telling effect.

The winner of the semi-final will set up a meeting with either St. Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh or Lucan Sarsfields who kick-off the day’s double header in Parnell Park with their clash preceding the Parnells/Brigids match at 3pm.
