The Clare Senior Hurling team are reportedly on the verge of appointing legendary former goalkeeper David Fitzgerald as manager for the forthcoming season.
Fitzgerald will stand unopposed for the position and the name of the 3 time All Star will officially be put forward for consideration this evening.
A committee has been put forward to consider his nomination but it seems to be a Fait Accompli that Fitzgerald will be the Clare supremo next season.
The redoubtable Fitzgerald is also in line for a dramatic return to goals for his club side Sixmilebridge as they face into the county semi final against Cratloe on Sunday week.
The 40 year old Fitzgerald resigned as Waterford manager last month after a successful stint in charge which began in 2008.
Fitzgerald is widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers of his generation and picked up accolade after accolade in an illustrious career which included 2 All Ireland Senior Hurling Championships, 1 All Ireland Club Championship and 3 Munster Senior Hurling Championship medals.
Clare fans live in hope that the appointment of the charismatic Fitzgerald will see a return to the glory days for the Banner county.
