Ireland to play France at Thomond Park

Irelands Rugby League Autumn International Series will see them play their first ever Rugby League International in Thomond Park against France on Saturday November 5th at 5pm. The test match forms part of Limerick’s ‘Back to Bid 2013’ campaign to secure a 2013 Rugby League World Cup tie for Thomond Park

Ireland kick off their Autumn Series with away test matches against Scotland and Wales before returning to Limerick for the French encounter. The Irish squad is a mix UK based professionals complemented with domestic based players and includes Limerick’s Aaron McCloskey & Ian Cross who recently signed with Super League giants St Helens.

Speaking at the launch, Brendan Guilfoyle, Development Manager, Rugby League Ireland, said, “We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to bring an Irish Rugby League International to the iconic Thomond Park Stadium. We look forward to welcoming France on November 5th and hope the sporting Limerick public will get behind the Irish team on the night.

From a local perspective the Treaty City Titans are very proud that two local players, Aaron McCloskey & Ian Cross have been chosen for the Autumn International squads on the back of their signing with Super League giants St Helens. We also wish to welcome Tongan native Lemeki Vaipulu, but an adopted Irishman and Limerick native for the last 6 years, to the Irish International set up and I’m sure he will prove to be a huge hit with the fans in Thomond Park”.

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond the control of Rugby League Ireland, the scheduled test match with Samoa due to take place on October 28th in Thomond Park will not be going ahead. The Samoan RL informed Rugby League Ireland last weekend that they would be unable to travel due to financial circumstances.

Rugby League Ireland also used the occasion to launch their new playing kit provided by Macron, who also recently signed a deal to provide gear with Limerick FC. The new jersey will debut on Sunday, October 16th against Scotland in Glasgow.
