Despite fielding an understrength side, Leinster still proved too strong for Italian side Aironi in tonights Magners League clash at the RDS in Dublin.
The Italians started the better and were rewarded when Tebadi kicked a penalty in the second minute of the match. Leinster began to show more after this early score and were level 3 minutes later when Nacewa converted a penalty for the home side. The scoreline remained deadlocked until the 35th minute when Williams crossed over the Leinster line to give the visitors a 3-8 lead. Tebaldi added the extra points which left the score at 3-10 in the Italians favour at the break.
Nacewa narrowed the gap just after the restart(44min) when he added a second penalty to his tally on the night. This left it 6-10 to Aironi. Two minutes later the home side took the lead for the first time when Morris touched down for a try. Again Nacewa was successful from the conversion to leave it 13-10 to Leinster.
Buso broke a ten minute scoring drought when he kicked an excellent drop goal to bring the visitors level on 57 minutes. That looked like being the final score of the contest until Kearney sealed the points for Leinster when going over on 77 minutes. Again Nacewa added the conversion to leave it 21-13. Buso kicked a last minute penalty for the Italians to narrow the gap to 21-16 and this was to be the final act of the game.
