Derry half-back Gerard O’Kane is set to return to inter-county action sooner than expected.
O’Kane was on the receiving end of a serious knee ligament injury at county training early this month. It was initially feared that the John Mitchel’s Glenulin man would be out of action for four months but it is now believed that he will in fact likely be available for the start of the Ulster Championship when Derry play either Cavan or Donegal in the first weekend of June.
“When I got the news (of how serious the injury was) that first championship game was something I was aiming for straight away. I plan to be jogging by next week and once you do that, you can start to pick things up fairly quickly. I expect to be available for selection by the time June comes around all being well.”
