Husband-and-wife duo Patricia and Michael Ryan dominated the final results at the Three Day events in Vale Sabroso, Portugal on Sunday night.
And in a testament to the quality of the Irish Sport Horse, all six top ten results achieved by Irish riders were on Irish-bred mounts.
Bandon, Co. Cork-born Patricia Ryan took outright victory in the one-star event with the Carlow-bred mare ‘Lady Chatterbox’, but also claimed fourth place with ‘Ballylynch Taldis Porter’ and seventh place on ‘Ballylynch Wizard’. Husband Michael took fifth place on ‘Ballylynch Sky High’ and also finished fifth in the two-star event with Waterford-bred gelding ‘Annestown Emperor’.
Thirty-one year-old Katie O’Sullivan also featured in the top ten of the one-star event with a sixth place on the Sligo-bred High Roller gelding ‘Shannondale Que’, completing a remarkable Irish opening to the 2011 season.
