Irish language station, TG4 will show almost double the amount of live GAA matches as RTE in 2011.
In a report in The Irish Independent it claims that by the time RTE broadcasts its next live GAA match in May, the TG4 will have shown over 50 live games.
With county finals, provincial and All-Ireland club matches, two International Rules Tests, Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cup games, under 21 championships and four colleges finals, TG4 could see their current schedule of 51 games in 2010 increased to the mid-50s with the addition of midweek college games.
The GAA’s decision to reduce the number of live senior championship matches will see RTE’s number of live games cut from 40 to 31, but those games will still attract larger viewership figures that most of those shown on TG4.
After the reduction of live championship action being shown, RTE will now broadcast less GAA games in 2011 than in either soccer or rugby.
