How to be Smart While Betting on the Football

Betting is a risky affair, but there are ways to minimise risks and increase profits. Here’s how to be smart while betting on football if you want to walk home with a fatter wallet and make the most of all the offers and new betfair promotions available to you.

  1. Learn about implied probability

Implied probability is the art of turning football betting odds into a percentage that includes the bookmaker’s margin. They are not true odds, but the implied probability can help you calculate the potential value of a stake. This number is always calculated based on what the bookmaker expects to happen in a match, and it can be the best indicator for placing an odd. For instance, the odd on a Manchester United – Liverpool game is 9/5. You turn this fraction into implied probability, and you’ll find that the bookmaker thinks Manchester United has a 37.5% chance of winning the game.

  1. Check the betting odds

If you want to draw a profit out of your betting, also check the betting odds. Technically, they represent the likelihood of an outcome. However, in football betting, they represent the potential winnings compared to the amount of your stake. For instance, if a particular wager has the betting odds of 50:1, it means you will win £50 for every £1 you bet. Since your stake will be returned, it means that you can walk home with £51 in your wallet. If you lose, though, you will only lose the amount of your stake, which is £1.

  1. Check the margins

Different kinds of bets have different margins, and this is another important thing to take into account before determining the value of your stake and the type of wager you want to make.

Simple bets have the lowest margins, which means they’ll bring you the least profit. However, they are also the most likely to win. If you’re a beginner, we recommend starting with smaller margin bets, but that is simpler to win than working your way to more complex strategies.

  1. Know your sport inside-out

It should go without saying – before betting on football, turn yourself into a football pro. Learn everything you can about the game, teams, and players. Start betting on smaller teams and less important games; this will allow you to place smaller stakes until you learn how football betting works. Besides paying attention to the actual players, also make sure you know who coaches each team and the reputation of each coach. Thorough knowledge of your sport means higher chances of winning the wagers.

  1. Avoid the temptation of odds-on prices

Odds-on is a frequent term in the betting world, meaning that the event is more likely to happen than it is not. An example of odds-on would be a wager on Manchester United vs. some small-town team that isn’t even in the league.

Winning an odds-on wager is fairly easy, but the profits are very low. More often than not, you’ll win less than your stake but will still lose the entire stake if the odds turn. For this reason, you should stay away from this type of bet.

List of noteworthy Football Fouls

When it comes to the game of football, there are various rules that are in place. In fact, you will find that there are various fouls that the referee can call during the game. These have been put in place in order to ensure that there is fairness during the game.

Although there are many fouls that you should take note of, you should realize they come with various consequences. We shall briefly explain some of them below so that you can understand. So, we suggest that you take a break from your acepokies casino gambling right now and take a few minutes to learn.

Outcomes of Fouls in Football

  • Fouls carry the following outcomes:
  • Minor offenses will award the opposing team an indirect free kick
  • A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team for a more serious offense. If the foul happens within the penalty box, then the opposing team will get a penalty kick
  • If the event that there is a series of repeated fouls, then the offending team/player will get a yellow card, which is also a caution. If the fouls continue, then a second yellow card will be awarded before a red card is awarded. The red card will have the player expelled from the game
  • If a french casinos player is cautioned but continues to commit fouls, then they will be given the red card which we have mentioned above. A red card means expulsion, no two ways about it. Expulsion means that the player in question must stop playing immediately and leave the game. Also, it needs to be noted that when a player has been expelled, they cannot nit be substituted for. What it means is that the team will have to fo with just 10 players until the end of the game.

It should be noted that the referee is the one who always has the final say. That means he is the only one who decides what sort of punishment each foul warrants.

Shane Long makes Bournemouth debut in 3-2 win

The Irish striker is on loan at the Championship club for the rest of the season.

Shane Long made his Bournemouth debut today after arriving on loan at the club on deadline day.

Birmingham were the opposition and his first start, while not a scoring one, coincided with Bournemouth’s first league win since the beginning of January.

Fellow Irish international Scott Hogan managed a brace for Birmingham but his contribution wasn’t enough to collect what would have been a valuable 3 points.

Instead, Arnaut Danjuma, Jack Wilshere and Philip Billing scored for Bournemouth in a 3-2 win.

Long’s playtime had steadily decreased for Southampton over the past couple of seasons so his move to Bournemouth couldn’t have come at a better time.

The Irish international only started once in the Premier League this season, having been forced to sit on the bench for much of the campaign due to the offensive partnership of Che Adams and Danny Ings.

Long wasn’t the only Irishman to make a move to the Championship during the January transfer window.

Conor Hourihane and Jayson Molumby also completed loan moves to Swansea City and Preston North End respectively.

Both are thriving in their new environments, with Hourihane impressing in particular.

The Cork native has scored 3 goals in 3 games for Swansea since moving, including a brilliant effort from outside the box in a man of the match performance last night.

With World Cup qualification games quickly approaching in March, Ireland badly need an in-form striker to lead the line.

James Collins or Scott Hogan look the most likely candidates as it stands, both have been starting regularly at Championship level and managed to find the net for their respective clubs today.

Given a good run of games, though, Shane Long could find himself as Ireland’s undisputed number nine again.

Streaming service WatchLOI unlikely to return for 2021 season

WatchLOI provided an alternative for fans to watch League of Ireland matches during a COVID-19 stricken 2020 season.

The FAI have announced that WatchLOI – The streaming service used for League of Ireland fixtures – is unlikely return for the 2021 season, citing unsustainability as the reason for doing so.

The service, which started in July last year, ran throughout the 2020 League of Ireland season covering League of Ireland Premier Division fixtures, cup matches and the promotion/relegation play-off between Longford Town and Shelbourne.

Apparently though, it was not a commercial success despite a seemingly large number of users throughout the season.

The FAI have confirmed that they’re looking into alternatives, one of which may be allowing clubs to stream games themselves.

Several First Division clubs took it upon themselves to stream their own games last season given the failure to include the First Division into the WatchLOI package, meaning that this could be a solution to the problem.

The 8th March is the resumption date for the League of Ireland so all should be revealed sooner rather than later.

Honeysuckle 6/4 From 13/8 To Keep Punters Sweet in Irish Champion Hurdle

Honeysuckle will face five rivals in her bid for back-to-back victories in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on Saturday.

Henry de Bromhead’s superstar landed the feature event on the opening day of the Dublin Racing Festival last season, before going on to beat Benie Des Dieux in an epic battle in the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham last March. BoyleSports have made Honeysuckle the 6/4 favourite from 13/8 as she bids to extend her unbeaten run this weekend to ten, with Sharjah her closest rival in the betting.

The Willie Mullins trained gelding was the star on day four of the Christmas Festival at Leopardstown as the eight-year-old son of Doctor Dino landed the Grade One Matheson Hurdle for the third year in a row and is 2/1 to add the Irish Champion Hurdle to his CV.

Mullins also trains 2020 County Hurdle winner Saint Roi (7/1) and 2019 Morgiana Hurdle winner Saldier (12/1) with Gordon Elliott’s Abacadabras at 6/1 and last year’s third Petit Mouchoir at 20/1.

The Dublin Chase is shaping up to be an exciting renewal with Mullins’ Chacun Pour Soi and Min taking each other on once again.  Min landed the Grade One contest in both 2018 and 2019 but was no match for Chacun Pour Soi twelve months ago and the latter is a well-backed 4/9 favourite for back-to-back victories.

The field for Saturday’s showdown is completed by Notebook (7/1) and 25/1 shots Tornado Flyer, Fakir D’oudairies and Sizing Pottsie 25/1.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Racing fans around the globe will be glued to their TV screens this weekend as the fantastic Dublin Racing Festival takes place at Leopardstown. Henry de Bromhead’s Honeysuckle is a well-fancied 6/4 favourite from 13/8 to win back-to-back Irish Champion Hurdles while Chacun Pour Soi is being picked out as one of the bankers from the meeting at 4/9 to deliver another Dublin Chase for Willie Mullins.”

Dragons v Connacht Rugby – Preview and Starting Teams 7:30pm Friday on TG4

Finlay Bealham and Jack Carty will both line out for Connacht for the 150th time in Friday’s Guinness PRO14 fixture away to Dragons (k/o 7.35pm).

Both Irish internationals are products of the Connacht Academy, with Carty making his Pro debut in September 2012 and Bealham in February 2014. Between them they have won 24 Ireland caps.

Bealham lines out in a front row alongside Denis Buckley and Shane Delahunt, while Niall Murray and Gavin Thornbury form a new-look second row partnership. Paul Boyle captains the side from blindside flanker, with Conor Oliver on the opposite flank and Abraham Papali’i at number 8. Thornbury and Boyle will also hit the milestone of 50 caps for Connacht.

Carty will be joined by Caolin Blade in the half-back slots, while the centre partnership is unchanged with Peter Robb alongside Tom Daly. The back three consists of Matt Healy, Peter Sullivan and John Porch.

Among the replacements is Oisin Dowling who is in line to make his Connacht debut after recovering from a long-term back injury.

Commenting on the game, Head Coach Andy Friend says:
“This is a must-win for us given results of the last few weeks. While our home form has been disappointing we’ve had honest reviews of what’s gone wrong and the reaction in training has been good. Our away form has been a positive for us this season, so we’ll look to keep that going tomorrow albeit against tough opposition and a tough place to go in Rodney Parade.”

Regarding his team selection Friend added:
“We’ve a number of players earning significant caps tomorrow so I’d like to congratulate Finlay, Jack, Gavin and Paul on the milestones. We’ve also got Oisin Dowling in line for his first appearance which has been long overdue after his back injury, and that’s a testament to him and the medical department. Overall we’ve a pretty healthy squad which is a boost heading into a key part of the season.”

Caoimhin Kelleher starts as Liverpool fall to Brighton

Aaron Connolly also featured on the Brighton bench.

Caoimhin Kelleher started his first Premier League game for two months this evening as Liverpool took on Brighton at Anfield.

Kelleher’s previous start came against Wolves in December. A game he impressed in as he kept a clean sheet and made a handful of impressive saves.

Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies signed for Liverpool on deadline day but neither were to be seen in the starting line-up.

Instead, Davies took to the bench while Kabak didn’t feature in the squad at all.

Aaron Connolly started on the Brighton bench just days after receiving vile online abuse which caused him to deactivate his Twitter account.

The abuse came after Connolly missed a chance to double Brighton’s advantage over Tottenham on Sunday.

A win for Liverpool would propel them to 3rd in the table, overtaking Leicester City.

Brighton, on the other hand, were hoping for a positive result to create further distance between themselves and the relegation zone.

FIRST HALF

The match started at a frantic pace but goalscoring opportunities were hard to come despite the intense approach.

Defences stood firm during the opening period of the half, however both teams were looking more and more dangerous as the minutes passed.

In fact, it wasn’t until the 23rd minute that an opportunity of any kind came along.

The ball was played onto Neal Maupay and he initially did well in the box to evade a handful of Liverpool defenders before his shot was deflected. The ball then found it’s way to the feet of Dan Burn but his effort sailed harmlessly over the bar.

Chances remained at a premium as the first half finished scoreless.

Brighton looked the more likely to score of the two, much improvement was needed from Jürgen Klopp’s men in the second half.

SECOND HALF

Liverpool started the second half with much more urgency than they ended the first.

They did, however, struggle to create chances of note.

The same cannot be said about Brighton as they opened the scoring with a brilliant team goal in the 56th minute.

Steven Alzate was the goalscorer as he started a rare Premier League game. He got on the end of a Dan Burn header and made no mistake in finding the back of the net.

The Colombian international burst onto the scene a couple of years ago but his game time has become increasingly limited. Perhaps this evening’s solid performance and goal will give Graham Potter something to think about in the coming weeks.

Mohamed Salah had an excellent opportunity to equalize from a Trent Alexander-Arnold low cross in the 70th minute but he uncharacteristically blazed over the bar. The Egyptian was in plenty of space in the box but he failed to make it count.

Caoimhin Kelleher was called into action in the 74th minute as he displayed good reflexes to deny Pascal Groß’s low effort.

He denied Brighton a second time moments later with another strong save to avoid any mounting danger.

The Corkman did well to keep the scoreline at 1-0.

Another Irishman, Aaron Connolly, came on in the 82nd minute to add more fuel to an already impressive Brighton attack.

Liverpool had their half chances but never looked likely to find the net realistically.

Full time sounded with the scoreline at 1-0 to Brighton, and deservedly so, too.

Liverpool remain in 4th while Brighton climb to 15th, easing their relegating worries by a great deal.
