Kellie Harrington: Gold Medal Win Hasn’t Kicked In Yet

Team Ireland boxer Kellie Harrington said that her gold medal win has not kicked in yet for her upon returning home on Tuesday following her victory at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Harrington defeated Brazil’s Beatriz Fereira by unanimous decision to earn Team Ireland’s second gold medal at Tokyo 2020 and conclude a fantastic run for the 2018 World Amateur Lightweight Champion.

The boxer has not been able to take in her achievement due to sleepless nights after her win and the increase in media attention compared to her World Championship victory.

“I think it will take for me to realize what’s actually going on, it will take me a couple of weeks, to not be around the team, to not be in that environment, to actually realize what has happened, and what I have achieved,” said the Olympic gold medallist.

A large amount of her family and friends greeted Kellie when she returned from New Delhi with gold in 2018 following her win over Olympic semi-final opponent Sudaporn Seesondee.

However, there was a smaller group waiting for her at the airport because of the restrictions in place and a large media presence wanting to hear from her as soon as she touched down.

The media have had a huge interest in Harrington since her victory and the fighter did not get back to her room in Tokyo until 9 pm JST on the day of the fight because of a press conference and an RTÉ interview.

“This is the first time speaking to me Ma and Da [since the win] because I haven’t been ringing people or anything like that because I’m just so exhausted.”

The only person she spoke to before returning home was her partner, Mandy Loughlin, via Bernard Dunne’s phone for only ten minutes.

Harrington hopes to relax for the coming weeks after being on a strict diet since she began preparing for the Olympics.

She is also thinking about getting a replica medal made as the original one already has a scratch on it.

However, Harrington did not seem too bothered about the scratch and the boxer is excited to watch some television, listen to the radio and eat whatever she wants over the coming days.

“I just want to sit down on me sofa, watch some telly, or not watch telly – listen to the radio…It’s gonna be brilliant to just eat whatever I want.”

Liverpool To Review New Ticket System Following Issues

Liverpool FC will review their new ticket system, which they trialled in their two most recent friendlies against Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna, before their first Premier League home fixture of the season.

This news comes after issues with the system caused both games’ kick-offs to be delayed so fans could get into the stadium before the match started.

The changes Liverpool have implemented are encouraged by the Premier league and promote a contactless approach to increase safety at football stadiums.

Phil Dutton, vice-president of ticketing and hospitality at LFC, said: “These new stadium entry processes significantly change the matchday operation for supporters and staff so we wanted to have an opportunity to test those processes in order to refine and improve them going forward.

“As well as the obvious football reasons, that was the purpose of holding two friendlies held in little over 24 hours at which we were able to trial the new processes with a reduced capacity to see how they worked. The most significant outcome is that the technology in general works but other issues became apparent, resulting in supporter entry rates being slower than usual.

“All supporters got into the stadium safely but it did take longer than expected. There were huge improvements from the first game to the second game as a result of learnings in between the two fixtures. This, coupled with a better understanding of the system, saw entry rates increase significantly, albeit with a need for further improvements to be made.

“We will now do a full review of the process and gather data to identify those areas where access processes fell below our required standard. Importantly, we will work with supporters and matchday staff to fully understand the issues and identify opportunities for improvements.

“We will also continue to seek feedback from fan forum members who attended the friendlies this week and also from Spirit of Shankly, the supporters trust. I must say that all fans who attended the games have been brilliant and we must thank them for their patience and understanding with the new entry processes. We know it has been frustrating for many but, on both nights, our supporters have been fantastic and we couldn’t have asked any more of them.”

Following the full review of the new entry process and the fan forum, the club will update supporters on any further changes ahead of the Premier League home fixture against Burnley on Saturday August 21.

Leicester Winger Rachid Ghezzal Set For Besiktas Move

Leicester City FC winger Rachid Ghezzal is close to a permanent transfer to Turkish club Besiktas, according to reports.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has said that Ghezzal will make the journey to Istanbul on Tuesday to complete the move away from England.

Leicester and Besiktas are said to have “total agreement” on the terms with the confirmation expected to be a formality.

The fee is rumoured to be in the seven-figure r for the Algerian, who spent last season on loan at the Turkish outfit.

Ghezzal made 23 appearances for Leicester, all in his first season under contract with the club, and scored three goals and assisted three.

The Algerian fell out of favour when current manager Brendan Rodgers was brought in to replace Claude Puel.

Ghezzal has since spent time on loan in Italy at Fiorentina and with Besiktas and has not appeared for his parent club since a minute-long cameo against Bournemouth on March 30th, 2019.

The winger failed to make an impact in Italy, scoring just once in 21 appearances and assisting once in the same amount of time for La Viola but impressed in his time on loan at Besiktas.

The on-loan winger racked up 26 goal involvements in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Turkish Champions.

His attacking ability was an important cog in the machine for Sergen Yalcin’s side as they won the title on goal difference by one.

His run of five goals in the last six games in the league helped the club over the line, with Ghezzal grabbing the all-important winner against Goztepe on the final day of the season.

He also had a strong performance in the Turkish Cup final, creating one of the two goals for his side on the day as they clinched the first half of an impressive double.

Galatasary, Besiktas’ rivals who finished second in the league by just one goal, were also reportedly interested in Ghezzal but it looks like Besiktas have now got their man.

Manchester City Defender Stones Extends Contract To 2026

Manchester City FC defender John Stones has extended his contract with the club until 2026.

The 27-year-old has already spent five years at the club after joining from Everton for £50 million in 2016.

Stones’ career at City before last season was filled with individual highs and lows but a stellar season at the back alongside Portuguese centre-half Ruben Dias has seen fans’ opinions of him change.

His 22 appearances in the league garnered 13 clean sheets and the Barnsley native was a key piece in Manchester City’s run to the UEFA Champions League final.

His performances in the semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain defined a fantastic season for the centre-half.

His form across his 35 appearances for the Citizens earned Stones a call-up to the English international setup.

Stones started every game for Gareth Southgate’s side as they went on a run to the final, falling at the last hurdle to Italy in Wembley.

He has made 168 appearances for Manchester City at the time of writing and has won every trophy in domestic football in England while at the club.

The England international has three Premier Leagues, two League Cups, one FA Cup and two Community Shields to his name.

“I couldn’t be happier,” Stones said. “I love being part of this squad. There are so many quality players here and I know we can continue winning trophies, which is my main focus.

“Working with the manager is a dream – he has taught me so much about the game and I feel like I learn something new every single day.

“The success we’ve had in the last four years has been incredible. To be a part of it has been a dream come true and I just want to continue winning.

“This is the best place for me to play my football and fulfil my ambitions.”

Liverpool Wrap Up Pre-Season With Win At Anfield

Liverpool FC brought the curtains down on their pre-season with a 3-1 win over Osasuna in front of 40,000 fans at Anfield.

The sides had to wait to get going as the ticketing system at Anfield was once again causing problems for fans looking to get in, despite the club offering advice on how to avoid such a problem.

The game was played in tribute to former Liverpool and Osasuna player Michael Robinson, who passed away last year.

Robinson spent one season with the Reds, winning the European Cup in 1984, and finished his career in Pamplona.

Osasuna failed to find the target with some early chances as Liverpool got into the feel of things with a sumptuous long-ball from new signing Ibrahima Konate to Takumi Minamino almost leading to the game’s opener.

Minamino put his team ahead moments later via a deflection and Liverpool never let go of their lead.

Kaide Gordon had a chance to double it but missed and was deemed to be in an offside position.

Bobby Firmino did what Gordon could not do after a fantastic cross from left-back Kostas Tsimikas found the Brazilian in clean air.

Curtis Jones was taken off after receiving a knee to the head and was replaced by Ben Woodburn who showed flashes of brilliance throughout the match.

More Liverpool pressure paid off closer to half-time when Bobby added a third and a second of his own to put the tie to bed before the half ended.

Minamino created the goal and looked bright in front of fans ahead of the new season.

Tsimikas did not last the full game, being withdrawn to avoid any injury after being on the receiving end of some rough tackles.

The second-half was less action-packed overall but Osasuna did manage to grab a goal through Kike.

Ben Davies and Jordan Henderson got minutes in front of the fans but the scoreline did not change again and Liverpool as out an impressive win in their final pre-season game.

All eyes are now fixated on the league opener against Norwich on Saturday at 5:30 pm.

Ulster Rugby Championship & Champions Cup – Season Preview, Squad & Fixtures

Below is everything you need to know ahead of Ulster rugby’s upcoming 2021/22 season at home and in Europe

Ulster were one of the unluckiest teams in Europe last year. Dan McFarland finished second to Leinster in their Pro14 Conference group only from bonus points, managing 16 wins.

The same spark couldn’t be found in the Champions Cup, losing their two matches in the shortened year to finish outside the qualification places.

The club has been very unproductive in the market this summer so captain Iain Henderson will be seeing a lot of the same faces in training this year.

Ulster have odds of 40/1 to win the Champions Cup this year.

Predicted finishing position

The lack of change in the squad could be their downfall this year as the same side was unable to success domestically or in Europe last year.

They will be happy to sneak into a semi-final in the Pro14 this year. For the Champions Cup, it will be a major success if they finish top eight and make it into the knockout rounds but that is unlikely.

Rugby Championship / Pro16 will be announced in mid-August and the Champions Cup will be announced the following week.

Peil – Baile Átha Cliath v Maigh Eo – Ag Tosú Nuachta, Scóir Beo, Gealltóireacht; Clúdach Teilifíse

Cluiche leathcheannais Chraobh Peile Sinsear na hÉireann – Baile Átha Cliath v Maigh Eo – Páirc a Chrócaigh – 6. 00 in – RTE

Rachaidh Baile Átha Cliath ceann ar cheann le Maigh Eo í bPáirc a Chrócaigh í mBaile Átha Cliath ar 14 Lúnasa ag 6.00in sa chéad bhabhta leathcheannais den Chraobh Peile Sinsearach Uile-Éireann beo ar RTÉ.

Cluichí Cúige

Tá an dá fhoireann ag teacht isteach sa chluiche seo, ag buachan a dteidil cúige.

Tháinig Maigh Eo ar ais ó chéad leath neamhleor i gcoinne na Gaillimhe i gcluiche ceannais Chonnacht chun teideal Chonnacht eile a bhuachan le scórlíne 2-14 (20) go 2-08 (14).

Ar an láimh eile, d’ardaigh Baile Átha Cliath a 11ú as a chéile trófaí Laighean tar éis dóibh Cill Dara a bhualadh 0-20 (20) go 1-09 (12) i bPáirc an Chrócaigh.

Anois, beidh Craobh Peile Sinsearach na hÉireann (Baile Átha Cliath v Maigh Eo) ina gcéad bhabhta leathcheannais d’Fheachtas Craobh 2021.

Maigh Eo an séasúr seo

Ag féachaint ar léirithe an dá fhoireann san fheachtas seo, d’fhéach Maigh Eo ar an taobh níos fearr ar an iomlán.

Le linn a bhfeachtais sraithe, bhí Maigh Eo ar an mbarr, tar éis dóibh atógáil a dhéanamh. Phreab siad ar ais go Roinn 1 i stíl.

Sula mbuaileann siad le Sligeach agus Liatroim ar a beach chun aghaidh a thabhairt ar Ghaillimh.

Le linn an chéad leath dá gcluiche i gcoinne na Gaillimhe, d’fhéach Maigh Eo as áit ar feadh cuid mhaith den chéad 30 nóiméad.

Chomh luath agus a thosaigh an dara leath, tháinig siad amach le cluiche reatha gan staonadh, beart daingean, le Padraig O ‘Hora agus Aidan O’Shea ag déanamh trí láimhdeachas eisceachtúla.

Thaispeáin an cluiche féin Maigh Eo ar a ndícheall agus is measa ag breathnú níos mó agus níos mó cosúil le foireann sa dara leath.

Tháinig athrú suntasach ar imeachtaí, áfach, tar éis an tsosa. Tháinig Maigh Eo amach agus bhuail siad Gaillimh ar neamhní a n-ionsaí, choinnigh siad gan scór iad go dtí an 61ú nóiméad saor.

Bhí cuma láidir ar a líne tosaigh, le Ryan O’Donoghue ag seasamh amach. Ag Scóráil 1-03.

Níor bhuail Maigh Eo Baile Átha Cliath ó 2012, i gcluiche leathcheannais na hÉireann.

Ó shin i leith, thug siad aghaidh ar Bhaile Átha Cliath in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 agus 2020.

Chaill siad ceithre chluiche ceannais Uile-Éireann agus dhá chluiche leathcheannais, agus tarraingtí dhá cheann acu.

Bhí na cluichí go léir an-dlúth, agus i mbabhtaí ceannais 2016 agus 2017, tháinig Maigh Eo gar do Bhaile Átha Cliath a bhualadh.

Tionóladh siad a gcruinniú deireanach i gcluiche ceannais Uile-Éireann 2020 ar ais i mí na Nollag, áit ar chaill siad le foireann i bhfad níos fearr i mBaile Átha Cliath.

Baile Átha Cliath an séasúr seo

Go dtí an séasúr seo, bhí cuma an-neamh ar Bhaile Átha Cliath ar Bhaile Átha Cliath. Ar fud Laighean, d’éalaigh siad go cúng.

Cé gur bhuaigh siad a gcluiche i gcoinne Loch Garman, coinníodh gan sprioc iad, gan ach 8 bpointe buaite acu (an corrlach a scóráil is ísle i gcluiche i mBaile Átha Cliath i gCúige Laighean le blianta).

I gcluiche ceannais Laighean, d’fhéach Baile Átha Cliath te agus fuar i gcoinne Chill Dara. Bhí an ráithe tosaigh anonn is anall, agus na Lilywhites i mbun conspóide i rith an chéad leath.

Mar sin féin, tháinig taithí agus folláine na Dubs chun iad a fháil thar an líne.

Tá taobh Dessie Farrell buailte go mór le gortuithe agus le scor le séasúir anuas.

D’fhág go leor d’imreoirí tionchair Bhaile Átha Cliath an painéal an séasúr seo, Cian O’Sullivan, Eric Lowndes, Paul Mannion, Paddy Andrews agus b’fhéidir Stephen Cluxton,ag fágáil poll ollmhór sa phainéal.

Tá imreoirí eile cosúil le Ciaran Kilkenny, Philly McMahon, James McCarthy, Jonny Cooper agus Dean Rock ag dul í dtreo dheireadh a ngairmeacha bheatha.

Láidreachtaí agus Laigí

Cosúil le go leor uaireanta roimhe seo i bPáirc an Chrócaigh, ghéill Maigh Eo 2 chúilín ó Shane Walsh agus Damien Comer i gCluiche Ceannais Chonnacht.

Tá sé seo tábhachtach mar, i gcoinne Bhaile Átha Cliath, chaill siad a gcluichí móra go léir mar gheall ar spriocanna neamhriachtanacha a sceitheadh.

Bhí Maigh Eo ceithre phointe chun tosaigh in 2015, sa trajectory le haghaidh bua agus ag géilleadh 3 phointe i gceann 15 nóiméad

In 2016, nuair a thit an liathróid ón gcúl báire Robbie Hennelly, tugadh pionós do Bhaile Átha Cliath. Agus an sprioc an difríocht.

In 2017 rith Con O’Callaghan díreach trí chosaint Mhaigh Eo sa nóiméad tosaigh chun sliotán abhaile, rud a d’fhág go gcaillfeadh Maigh Eo pointe arís.

Scóráil Dean Rock an sprioc is gasta i stair dheiridh na hÉireann ag 13 soicind i gcluiche ceannais Uile-Éireann na bliana seo caite, ag marú an chluiche sular thosaigh sé fiú.

Tá go leor déanta de bhinse Bhaile Átha Cliath chomh déanach, le hiar-bhainisteoir Chiarraí Eamonn Fitzmaurice ag ceistiú an bhfuil binse Bhaile Átha Cliath cumasach go leor.

Is é an rud a bhuaigh Baile Átha Cliath an oiread sin ar fud na hÉireann le 10 mbliana anuas ná an leibhéal cáilíochta atá ag teacht ón mbinse, cosúil leis na deartháireacha Alan agus Bernard Brogan agus Cormac Costello.

Conclúid

Ag iarraidh fanacht chomh neamhchlaonta agus is féidir, creidim go sáróidh Maigh Eo a nemesis sa deireadh, juggernaut Bhaile Átha Cliath.

Beidh roghnú foirne Mhaigh Eo tábhachtach, má imscaradh James Horan Aidan O’Shea i lár na páirce, rithfidh Brian Fenton agus James McCarthy isteach sa talamh é.

Is imreoir lár páirce iontach é O’Shea, ach tá a cháilíochtaí sa líne Full-Forward, áit a bhfuil sé ina núis sa liathróid ard agus ar cheann de na cáilíochtaí is fearr atá aige.

Má thosaíonn captaen Mhaigh Eo chun tosaigh, ba bhreá liom a sheans a fheiceáil i gcoinne Jonny Cooper agus a fhoireann.

Ar an iomlán, tá foireann níos láidre ag Baile Átha Cliath, ach níor fhéach siad ar a ngnáthshéasúr an séasúr seo.

Ó na cluichí a bhí acu roimhe seo, ba iad Maigh Eo an t-aon fhoireann a d’fhéadfadh neart na Dubs a mheaitseáil le neart.

Is féidir leis dul ar bhealach ar bith agus is é Baile Átha Cliath na Favorites. Mar sin féin, tá Maigh Eo ag cur deireadh le rith Bhaile Átha Cliath.

Craolfar Craobh Peile Sinsearach na hÉireann (Baile Átha Cliath v Maigh Eo) beo ar RTÉ.

Football – Dublin v Mayo – Starting News, Live Scores, Betting; TV Coverage

All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final – Dublin v Mayo – Croke Park – 6. 00 pm – RTE

Dublin will go head to head with Mayo at Croke Park in Dublin on the 14th of August at 6.00 pm in the first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final live on RTÉ.

Provincial Outings

Both teams are coming into this game, winning their provincial titles.

Mayo came back from a lacklustre first half against Galway in the Connacht final to win another Connacht title with a scoreline of 2-14 (20) to 2-08 (14).

Dublin on the other hand lifted their 11th consecutive Leinster title after defeating Kildare 0-20 (20) to 1-09 (12) in Croke Park.

Now, The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (Dublin v Mayo) will be the first semi-final of the 2021 Championship campaign.

Mayo Retrospective

Looking at both team’s performances this campaign, Mayo has looked the better side overall.

Throughout their league campaign, Mayo has been on tip-top form, after their shock relegation. They have bounced back to Division 1 in style.

Before hammering Sligo and Leitrim on their way to facing Galway.

During the first half of their game against Galway, Mayo looked void of ideas for much of the opening 30 minutes.

As soon as the second half began, they came out with a ruthless running game, tough tackling, with Padraig O’Hora and Aidan O’Shea making three exceptional turnovers.

The game itself showed Mayo at their best and Mayo at their worst, looking more and more like a second-half team. James Horan’s side still needs work.

However, a monumental change of events occurred after the break. Mayo came out and blitzed Galway, nullifying their attack, keeping them scoreless until the 61st minute from a free.

Outscoring their rivals 1-06 to 0-00 up until that moment.

Their forward line looked strong, with Ryan O’Donoghue a standout with his movement and finishing, scoring 1-03 and had a goal disallowed.

Mayo has not defeated Dublin since 2012, defeating them in the All-Ireland semi-final where they went on to lose to Donegal.

Since then, they have faced Dublin in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Losing four All-Ireland finals and two semi-finals, two of which have gone to replays.

All games have been very close affairs, with the 2016 and 2017 finals saw Mayo come close to ending their seven-decade wait for an All-Ireland.

Their last meeting was in the All-Ireland final in 2020 back in December, where they were outclassed in the much better Dublin side at the time.

James Horan’s men come into this game hoping to break their Dublin hoodoo.

Dublin Retrospective

So far this season, Dublin have looked very un-Dublin like. Throughout Leinster, they have narrowly escaped defeat.

While they bossed their game against Wexford, they were kept goalless, only winning by 8 points (the lowest scoring margin in a Dublin game in Leinster in years).

Against rivals Meath, they scuppered a wide lead in the Leinster semi-final.

The Dubs were cruising along in the first half, leading 2-11 (17) to 0-06 (6).

However, Meath came back with a goal, narrowing the gap to three points. The game ended up 2-15 (21) to 1-13 (16).

In the Leinster final, Dublin looked hot and cold against Kildare. The opening quarter was back and forth, with the Lilywhites in contention throughout the first half.

However, the Dubs experience and fitness came got them over the line.

Kildare faded, even a late goal by man on the match Daniel Flynn did little to impact Dublin.

Dessie Farrell’s side has been hit massively with injuries and retirements the past few seasons.

Many of Dublin’s influential players have left the panel this season, Cian O’Sullivan, Eric Lowndes, Paul Mannion, Paddy Andrews and possibly Stephen Cluxton, which has led to a mass exodus of their panel.

Other players such as Ciaran Kilkenny, Philly McMahon, James McCarthy, Jonny Cooper and Dean Rock are coming towards the twilight of their glittering careers.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Like many times before in Croke Park, Mayo was blitzed with two goals, after conceding from Shane Walsh and Damien Comer in the Connacht Final.

This is important because, against Dublin, they have lost all their big games against them down to leaking needless goals.

2015, Mayo were four points up, in the trajectory for victory and concede 3 goals in the space of 15 minutes.

2016, a drop of the ball from goalkeeper Robbie Hennelly saw a penalty gifted to Dublin, the goal being the difference with Dublin coming out one-point victors.

2017 saw Con O’Callaghan run straight through the Mayo defence in the opening minute to slot home, which, yet again, saw Mayo lose by a point.

Last year’s All-Ireland final saw Dean Rock score the fastest goal in All-Ireland final history at 13 seconds which killed the game off before it even began.

Much has been made of Dublin’s bench as of late, with former Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice questioning if Dublin’s bench is capable enough.

What won Dublin so many All-Irelands in the past 10 years is the level of quality coming off the bench, the likes of the Brogan brothers and Cormac Costello saw the Dubs outrun many teams in the latter stages of finals.

Conclusion

Trying to stay unbiased as possible, I believe Mayo will finally overcome its nemesis that is the Dublin juggernaut.

Mayo’s team selection will be important, if James Horan deploys Aidan O’Shea in midfield, Brian Fenton and James McCarthy will run him into the ground.

O’Shea is a great midfielder, but his qualities lie in the Full-Forward line, where he is a nuisance in the high-ball and bringing runners into the game is one of his best qualities.

If the Mayo captain starts upfront, I would fancy his chances against Jonny Cooper and co.

Overall, Dublin has the stronger team, but have not looked like their usual selves this season.

From their past games, Mayo has been the only team capable of truly matching the Dubs strength for strength.

It can go either way and Dublin are the favourites. But, I have Mayo ending Dublin’s run.

The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (Dublin v Mayo) will be live on RTÉ.

Prediction: Mayo by 3 points

Is féidir a rá go bhfuil sé ar bharr na n-imreoirí óga is fearr sa tír a raibh anáil an aeir úr acu sa chontae a chuaigh trí aistriú tar éis do roinnt imreoirí veteranacha imeacht.

Tá David Clifford ar cheann de na cinn is fearr sa tír agus ag 22 bliana d’aois, tá 3 theideal na Mumhan agus dhá All-Stars aige cheana féin.

Ar an iomlán, is é príomh-neart Chiarraí a bpríomhfhoireann le himreoirí mar Stephen O’Brien, Paul Geaney agus Paudie Clifford ag barr a gcluiche agus le méadú na réalta Sean O’Shea, beidh siad ina n-iomaitheoirí láidre go ceann blianta. teacht.

Tá lár na páirce láidir ag na bainisteoirí Feargal Logan agus Brian Dooher mar chroílár a gcuid foirne, agus is é Mattie Donnelly príomhfhócas a scuad.

Gan Donnelly, is beag béim a bheidh ar an taobh seo de Thír Eoghain mar iomaitheoirí móra.

Má tá imreoirí atá ag filleadh ar nós Conor McShane agus Conor McKenna oiriúnach go leor chun tosú, cuirfidh siad cosaint Chiarraí faoi bhrú.

Conclúid

Go luath sna 2000idí, ní raibh cluichí níos mó ann ná Ciarraí v Tír Eoghain.

Nuair a thug siad aghaidh ar a chéile, bhí siad os coinne. Tá idé-eolaíochtaí peile éagsúla acu, le Ciarraí ag imirt peile ag ionsaí le himreoirí oilte.

Cé gur imir Tír Eoghain peil dhiúltach, ba throid chrua agus an chosaint blaincéad a chuir go leor foirne i bhfeidhm tar éis do Thír Eoghain é a dhéanamh foirfe.

Ó 2003 go 2008, d’imir siad. Rialaigh Ciarraí Tír Eoghain.

B’fhéidir go bhfuil go leor ag díospóireacht cé a bhí mar “fhoireann na ndeich mbliana” nár bhuail Ciarraí Tír Eoghain i gcluiche ceannais ag an am sin.

Ag breathnú siar ar an dá thaobh ina iomláine anois, tá Ciarraí i bhfad níos láidre i ngach rannán, níos láidre faoi ionsaí, níos mó éagsúlachta ina gcuid roghanna scórála, cé gur féidir le Tír Eoghain a gcosaint a ghortú.

Tá an móiminteam ag Ciarraí agus ag dul tríd na 3 chluiche craobhchomórtais a bhí acu roimhe seo, bhuaigh Ciarraí ar Thír Eoghain, in 2012, 2015 agus 2019, agus ba bhabhtaí leathcheannais dhá cheann acu.

All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final – Kerry v Tyrone – Croke Park – 3. 30 pm – RTE

NOTE: THIS GAME HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK TO AN UNCONFIRMED DATE DUE TO COVID-19 FEARS

Kerry will go head to head with Ulster rivals Tyrone at Croke Park in Dublin on the 28th of August at 3.30 pm in the second All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final shown live on RTÉ.

The game was scheduled for the 15th of August, but due to high covid numbers in the Tyrone panel, the game was pushed back to the 28th of August.

Provincial Outings

Both teams are coming into this game, winning their provincial titles.

Tyrone fought hard in a thrilling and close-knit affair against Monaghan to claim their first Ulster title since 2017, winning the Anglo-Celt Cup with a 0-16 to 0-15 scoreline, putting them joint second with Monaghan on 16 Ulster titles.

All-Ireland challengers Kerry re-claimed the Munster Cup with a demolition job of old rivals Cork in Killarney with a 4-22 (34) to 1-09 (12) victory.

With the Kingdom claiming their 82nd provincial title and their 16th Munster Cup since 2000.

Now, The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (Kerry v Tyrone) will be the second semi-final of the 2021 Championship campaign.

Kerry Retrospective

Since the start of the Allianz League campaign, the Kingdom has looked and played like the best team in the country.

Sharing the league title with Dublin, remaining unbeaten in the process.

During their Munster escapades, they defeated Clare in the quarter-finals easily, winning 3-22 (31) to 1-11 (14). A match that saw Sean O’Shea (1-07) and David Clifford (1-06) run riot.

They overcame Tipperary in the semi-finals with a score of 1-19 (22) to 1-08 (11) before dismantling Cork.

They face off against old rivals Tyrone on the 15th of August to determine who will make the All-Ireland final.

The last time these two faced off with one another was in the Allianz Football League Division 1 semi-final where Kerry demolished Tyrone in Killarney.

Retaining their league title with a scoreline of 6-15 (33) to 1-14 (17).

Tyrone Retrospective

At the start of this years campaign, Tyrone looked like a team void of idea’s, running on empty and in desperate need of a facelift.

Finishing second in their group, but, looking unconvincing throughout.

Scoring a combined total of 4-72 (84) for a county like Tyrone is relatively poor in today’s football landscape.

Defensively, they conceded 8-57 (81).

Not much was expected from Tyrone by the time the Ulster championship came around.

In the quarter-finals, they defeated reigning Ulster champions, Cavan.

By the time the Ulster semi-final came around, pundits and fans alike already had Donegal steamrolling Tyrone.

However, Donegal was dumped out of the championship with a motivated performance by The Red Hand County, winning 0-23 (23) to 1-14 (17) to set up an Ulster final clash with Monaghan.

Capturing their 16th title in the process.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Manager Peter Keane has some of the best talents at his disposal as Kerry manager.

Arguably boasting the best young crop of players in the country that have been a breath of fresh air to the county that went through a transitional period after some veteran players departed in recent years.

Full-forward David Clifford is one of the best forwards in the country and at the age of 22, he already has 3 Munster titles and two All-Stars to his name.

All in all, Kerry’s main strength is the starting 15, players such as Stephen O’Brien, Paul Geaney and Paudie Clifford are on top of their game and with the rise of star Seán O’Shea, they will be strong contenders for years to come.

Managers Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher have a strong midfield as the core of their team, while Mattie Donnelly is the main focus of their squad.

Without Donnelly, not much emphasis will be put on this Tyrone side as major contenders.

If returning players such as Conor McShane and Conor McKenna are fit enough to start, they will cause problems for a leaky Kerry defence.

Conclusion

Throughout the early 2000s, there was no greater rivalry than Kerry v Tyrone.

When they faced off against one another, they were the total opposite of each other. Boasting different football ideologies, with Kerry being the free-flowing, skilful and attacking team that everyone admired.

Mickey Harte’s Tyrone side was lambasted for their negative style, hard tackling and the infamous ”blanket defence” that many teams implemented after Tyrone perfected it.

From 2003 to 2008, they faced off in three All-Ireland finals, with Tyrone prevailing in each one.

Debated by many on who were the ”team of decade” Kerry may have not beaten them in a final but they did accomplish consecutive All-Ireland wins on more than one occasion, unlike Tyrone.

History does mean something when it comes to this fixture, for years, Tyrone, under Mickey Harte was Kerry’s bogey team. Tyrone were to Kerry, to what Kerry was to Cork during that era.

Looking back on the two sides overall now, Kerry is much stronger in all departments, stronger in attack, more variety in their scoring options, while Tyrone can get at their full-backs, and will have much to prove after their league encounter, Kerry is just superior.

Pyscholigally, Kerry have the momentum and going by their past 3 championship encounters, Kerry has defeated Tyrone, in 2012, 2015 and 201, two of which were semi-finals.

The winner will face off against Mayo on September 11th 2021

The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final (Kerry v Tyrone) will be live on RTÉ.
