Euro 2020: England v Denmark – Team News, Betting, Prediction

We have got all the information on the Euro 2020 semi-final between England and Denmark on Wednesday

RTE 2 and RTE Player will televise the match at 20:00 on Wednesday, 7th July. Build up will start at 19:30 for the game in Wembley.

The winner of this match will face Italy or Spain in the Euro 2020 final also on in Wembley on Sunday evening.

England is presently ranked 4th in the FIFA World Rankings and has been one of the favourites for this competition since it kicked off.

Gareth Southgate’s squad made it this far after winning their group and beating Germany and Ukraine. They managed to be the only team left in the competition yet to concede a single goal.

They will have great confidence in reaching their first major final since 1966 but can Denmark cause an upset.

After narrowly making out of their group they beat the Czech Republic and Wales in the knockout rounds. Denmark was considered heavy underdogs when they won Euro 1992 so could lightning strike twice.

Kasper Hjulmand has a very well-rounded Danish squad and they are now ranked 10th in the world.

These two last faced each other nine months ago in the UEFA Nations League where Denmark beat England 1-0 away from home.

Both sides like to score with them having 4-0 victories in the knockouts, but can this Danish attack break down England’s defence?

The Danes will put up a fight and they will finally break England’s clean sheet record, but it won’t be enough. Kasper Schmeichel will be kept busy by Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling at the other end.

Rovers are past the halfway stage in the league and they sit on top. They are ahead of Sligo Rovers by goal difference due to some patchy form recently.

In the last few weeks, injuries have been the main concern for Stephen Bradley’s team, and this week they will miss midfielders, Chris McCann and Neil Farrugia.

Manager Bradley said at a press conference: “We’ve had a tough time the last five or six weeks in terms of injuries, there’s no getting away from that but it’s great to start seeing the players coming back.”

“It’s important to have everyone available as much as possible because between now and the end of the season there’s going to be a lot of big games.”

Although Bratislava has a very good team, this will be their first match since the end of May. They will be physically ready, but will they be mentally?

These two sides have not faced each other in recent history so these two legs could be an unpredictable, interesting affair.

Score Prediction

Now that the ‘away goal’ rules have been removed from the Champions League, Bradley’s side’s job is not to score but the keep the score line low.

The manager says that they understand their opponents so expect the game to end 1-0 to Slovan Bratislava as they have their home fans as an advantage.

“We know what they’re about, they’re a very good side but it’s one that excites us and one that we’re looking forward to,” added Bradley.

History Made As Team Ireland Divers Confirmed For Tokyo 2020

Team Ireland has selected their two divers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games this summer with one female diver included – a first for the team.

Tanya Watson qualified for the Women’s 10m platform and will be one half of the Irish Olympic diving team.

Rio 2016 finalist Ollie Dingley will be going to his second Olympic games and will compete in the Men’s Springboard 3m event.

“Firstly, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who made this possible. It’s a real privilege to represent Ireland at my second Olympic Games,” said Dingley.

“I feel very lucky that we can get to go and compete at the Olympics after what has been a very uncertain time for everybody.

“This will be my third competition in over two years, and I really just can’t wait to get out there and compete and do my best.”

19-year-old Tanya Watson will be looking forward to this summer’s Olympics too.

The Southampton-born diver qualified after getting into the Top 18 of the FINA Diving World Cup in Tokyo.

Team Ireland has also made history by sending more than one diver to the Olympics for the first time, according to Swim Ireland Performance Director John Rudd.

“We’re all thrilled to see this talented team of two selected to compete in diving at the Games, particularly as this is the very first time we’ve ever fielded more than one diver at an Olympics – as well as Tanya having the honour of being our first-ever female Olympic diver….we can look forward to some exciting days of competition in the Olympic weeks ahead,” said Rudd.

Tanya progressed from Ireland’s Youth Olympic team of 2018 and has added more great performances and accolades to her name since reaching the final in Buenos Aires.

28-year-old Ollie Dingley has a notable amount of accolades too, including the Irish record for the 1m and 3m Springboard.

Team Ireland Chef de Mission for Tokyo 2020, Tricia Heberle, is excited to see the divers in action.

Heberle said: “We know it has been a challenging qualifying pathway and we are very excited to support them both.”

Lions v Sharks – Preview, Lineups, Betting, Start Time, TV Coverage

The 2021 British and Irish Lions will play their third game and the second game in South Africa on Wednesday when the Cell C Sharks lineup against them.

This year’s Lions have proven to be a very strong side thus far with their most recent match against the Lions highlighting their quality.

However, wholesale changes have been made to the side that beat the Sigma Lions 56-14 on Saturday. You can watch a live stream of the match on Sky Sports APP

Ulster and Ireland lock Iain Henderson will captain the side, becoming the latest Irishman to take up the mantle.

Mako Vunipola will get his first start of the tour and will have a chance to prove to everyone why he should be considered for the South Africa tests.

Adam Beard and Josh Navidi have been drafted in after their late call-ups following the injuries Alun Wyn Jones and Justin Tipuric sustained against Japan.

The explosive Sam Simmonds will be a danger to the Sharks defence in his first start as a Lion.

His opposite number eight, Sharks captain Phepsi Buthelezi, will look to lead his side to a historic victory against Warren Gatland’s Lions.

The side’s last game against the British and Irish Lions ended 39-3 in a dominant display from Ian McGeechan’s touring side.

Buthelezi and co. will want to provide a bigger challenge to the 2021 Lions than their 2009 counterparts.

The tough task ahead of them includes shutting down threats such as centre Elliot Daly and former Blue Bulls winger Duhan Van Der Merwe.

Daly was a livewire in his natural position for the Lions when he came on at the weekend.

Gatland’s use of ‘roving wingers’ and edge forwards in the first two games with the squad has troubled opposition defences and Sharks players will have to be wary of this.

The Sharks are boosted by the inclusion of fly-half Curwin Bosch, who has been capped twice by the Springboks.

His ever-presence in the side has seen the fly-half become a leader for the backs and his skills will be needed for a good performance on Wednesday.

However, it will be a big ask, nonetheless.

Lineups

British and Irish Lions: Liam Williams, Anthony Watson, Elliot Daly, Bundee Aki, Duhan van der Merwe, Dan Biggar, Gareth Davies; Mako Vunipola, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Zander Fagerson, Iain Henderson C, Adam Beard, Josh Navidi, Tom Curry, Sam Simmonds.
Replacements: Ken Owens, Rory Sutherland, Tadhg Furlong, Tadhg Beirne, Jack Conan, Conor Murray, Stuart Hogg, Chris Harris.

Shamrock Rovers prepare for first Champions League game in ten years

It may be hard to believe but a club as big as Shamrock Rovers, until last year, had not won the Irish league since 2011. Now they prepare themselves for a run in the Champions League qualifiers

At 17:30 on Wednesday, 7th July, Shamrock Rovers will travel to the National Stadium in Slovakia to face Slovan Bratislava.

Bratislava has won the Slovakia football championship for three years in a row. Their squad includes a few of the internationals that traveled to Euro 2020 with Slovakia.

Although they have not qualified for the Champions League group stages before, they made an appearance at the Europa League in the 2019/2020 season. The club’s greatest moment was winning the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup way back in 1969.

The young Rovers manager, Stephen Bradley who is still only 36, says that his team is prepared for the occasion.

“They’re obviously a really good side. They dominate Slovakian football, and they have real quality all over the pitch, top-level quality with internationals. But we’re excited by it,” said Bradley.

“We know what they’re about, they’re a very good side but it’s one that excites us and one that we’re looking forward to.”

Shamrock Rovers team news

Shamrock Rovers will be without Irish midfielders Chris McCann and Neil Farrugia who won’t travel due to injury.

They currently sit on top of the League of Ireland after 19 games, only ahead of Sligo Rovers on goal difference.

Rovers will begin their Champions League run away in Bratislava. Many believe that teams will play very differently now that the ‘away goal’ rule has been removed from the competition.

“That’s been taken out of it so I’m sure that will alter how teams go away from home and play in Europe when it’s not important. It’s going to be different, but it is what it is, and we’ll go there with a game plan,” added Bradley.

The League of Ireland is yet to have a representative at the Champions League group stages, could Rovers be the first? If they lose over the two legs, they will be placed into the third qualifying round of the newly made Europa Conference League.

Ireland U20s Side To Face Italy Announced

The Ireland under-20’s team to face Italy in Wednesday’s U20 Six Nations Championship clash in Cardiff has been announced.

Many players have been given their first starts of the tournament and will line up alongside some mainstays in the side.

George Saunderson will get his chance at loosehead prop with Eoin De Buitléar and Sam Illo teaming up with him in the front row.

Mark Morrissey returns to the starting lineup and will pair up with Harry Sheridan at lock forward.

Alex Soroka returns to blindside flanker after a spell in the second row with captain Alex Kendellen making the move up to openside.

Daniel Okeke will make his first start for the side at number eight.

Nathan Doak will continue his run of starts at scrum-half with James Humphreys returning to the starting lineup at fly-half.

Ben Carson and Jude Postlethwaite come into the side in place of Cathal Forde and Shane Jennings.

Chay Mullins and Conor Rankin earn their first starts of the tournament on the wings with the ever-present Jamie Osborne behind them at fullback.

Winger Ben Moxham and centre Cathal Forde are among those on the bench for Wednesday’s clash.

Team Ireland Golf Team Confirmed for Tokyo 2020

Team Ireland has officially selected the golfers who will compete in the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer. Ireland will be fielding a full contingent in Tokyo, having qualified two players in both the Men’s Individual Stroke Play, and the Women’s Individual Stroke Play, each event takes place over four days.

The golf venue is the Kasumigaseki Country Club on the outskirts of Tokyo city, and the tournament runs from Thursday 29 July until Saturday 7 August 2021,

Players picked to represent Ireland

The men’s event is the first to start and will feature Stars Rory Mcllroy and Shane Lowry. In the women’s event, Leona Maguire and Stephaine Meadow will compete in their second official Olympic Games after their 2016 Rio journey. Both are coming off the Women’s PGA Championship with Maguire boasting her highest finish in a major championship, finishing fifteenth.

When discussing her role for Tokyo, Maguire added;

“Rio was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The Olympics is the biggest sporting event in the world, and to represent Ireland on the stage like that is an incredible honour. I’m really looking forward to Tokyo. Golf is massive in Asia and particularly Japan. It will be my first time in Japan, and hopefully, I can take the experiences that I had in Rio and build on them. In Rio, I played well, but I think I was caught up in the experience of it and was happy to be there. But I’m a little more dialled in for Tokyo, and I’m trying to finish as high up that leader board as I can.”

Team Interviews

David Kearney, Team Coach for the Women’s Team said;

“Whilst the Olympics is very different to a normal LPGA Tour week, our players have done a great job preparing and planning as if it’s the same and we’re delighted to finally have the team formally selected. With Covid-19 considerations, there are more potential performance disablers but we will be prepared to be agile and acceptant of not everything being as it normally is. This agility will help create the optimum performance space.

“All players have shown some great form this year and both Stephanie and Leona already have an Olympic Games under their belt at Rio. Personally, I’m very proud to have known them both since they were 9 and 11 years old respectively and am looking forward to supporting them in Tokyo, along with everyone else in Ireland.”

Lowry Speaks

In the men’s event, Offaly’s Shane Lowry will make his Olympic debut and admitted to looking forward to competing in the games for the first time;

“It is starting to be real. We played the US Open recently, so we’re really focused on that. And then all of a sudden, it is ‘wow, the Olympics is actually pretty close,’ so it’s very exciting. It is such an exciting experience to go through all the gear – everybody knows how patriotic I am, so to have your own gear with our team logo on it is pretty cool!

Team Ireland Chef de Mission for Tokyo, Tricia Herberle admitted to being excited about the team;

We are very excited to have a full contingent of Golfers representing Team Ireland at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. All four players are world-class with Leona and Stephanie already having a multi-Games experience in Rio. It’s also very special to have globally recognised players like Rory and Shane competing for the first time at an Olympics.  There are medals for the taking and while no doubt this is a different type of tournament to what they normally play, it will be great to watch the competitions unfold..”

Olympics Opening Ceremony for VIP guests only

According to local reports the Japanese government will arrange for the opening of Tokyo 2020 to be viewed by reduced VIP spectators

The Asahi newspaper has also made claims on other restrictions that will be in place at Olympic events.

Events that are held after 21:00 and other large events would not have any spectators. Only VIP guests such as sponsors’ guests and diplomats will be allowed to attend the opening ceremony.

The local newspaper cited multiple unidentified government sources to verify this information.

The attendance at the opening ceremony is greatly reduced from the initial estimate of 10,000 fans in the stadium.

This Olympic game has already been delayed a full year due to the Covid19 pandemic. A recent television survey in Japan showed that only one-third of the Japanese would like the Games to continue with reduced crowds. A big 31 percent of the voters wanted the competition to be outright canceled.

It is highly unlikely that Tokyo 2020 will be canceled due to the money and resources that the Japanese government and Sports Council have put into the event.

Instead, they will be hoping to have 10,000 spectators, or 50 percent capacity at every event. Although overseas fans will not be allowed in the stadiums, they are hoping there will be a big turnout of Japanese sports fans.

Normal celebrations such as high-fiving, autograph-hunting, and towel-waving will all be off-limits to spectators in Tokyo.

What we will miss from the Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of an Olympics is meant to be a jaw-dropping event that leaves you excited for the rest of the tournament.

This year will not be the same with Japan having reduced crowds and reduced performers in the stadium. After watching the Euro 2020 opening ceremony last month, do not expect it to be much bigger. Let’s hope that the Japanese can get creative with what they have.

RTE will be broadcasting the opening ceremony for those of us stuck at home on Friday, 23rd July.

Teen Sensation Hollie Towl set to Challenge For Featherweight Championship

British teen sensation Hollie Towl is set to challenge for the featherweight championship on Saturday, September 4th at the Hilton Brighton Metropole.

Towl will face off against Nigerian Abosede Obisanya for the WIBA Youth World Championship for this Historic Professional Boxing Event in Brighton.

The former Five-Time, Three Division English Amateur National Champion and currently unbeaten professional Hollie Towl will face off against unbeaten 19-year-old Nigerian Abosede Obisanya for her first Pro Boxing Championship honour.

They will face off for the Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) Featherweight Youth World Title.

After making her professional debut last year on the same day in 2020, Hollie had her pro debut on the ‘’Let Battle Commence Boxing Show’’ held in Aberdeen. Winning the bout by TKO in the fifth round against Jamie Bates.

Nigerian Obisanya currently holds a 3-0-1 record, winning all her fights by KO/TKO and drawing against fellow Nigerian Oyindamola Ayodele.

Towl, will be the youngest fighter to compete for a professional boxing title coming from the United Kingdom. If she were to come out with the victory on September the 4th, she could equal or top the current modern era’s youngest World Champion Devin Haney’s phenomenal championship achievements.

Haney won the World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth World Championship in March of 2017 at the age of 18 years old with a TKO victory over Mexico’s Maximino Toala. He then went on to win the full world title at the age of 20 years old.

Co-Headline Fight

Towl’s talented Xbox Gym team-mate 19-year-old Eleanor Coulson is also on the card titled ‘’Battles At The Beach’’. She wil challenge for the Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) Middleweight Youth World Championship against an unnamed opponent.

Coulson was the reigning National Amateur Champion when she made the move to the professional ranks, making her debut in September 2020. She currently holds an unbeaten record as a professional and will be eligible to compete for the full World title before her twentieth birthday.

The Main Card

The undercard to this show features another championship fight, with International Super Flyweight Champion Nicola Hopewell going toe to toe with Spanish based Vanessa Tarboda for the Super Flyweight crown.

Rochester’s Jay Jackson will face off against Nicaragua’s Jose A Guilar in a four-round Super Featherweight bout, with this being Jackson’s toughest match-up to date. Nottingham’s Martin Reffell will also face off against South American opposition Frederick Castro.

Colchester’s Calvin Carruthers makes his fourth pro fight against Nottingham’s Garfield Mushore in a four-round Super Featherweight contest.

Ashford, Kent’s Jack Way makes his pro debut against fellow debutant Tyler Smith in a four-round Light Heavyweight contest, similarly, pro debutants Connor Brazil and Callan Harley will face each other in a four-round welterweight contest.

Towl versus Obisanya for the WIBA Featherweight Youth World Championship and teammate Coulson versus and soon-to-be-announced opponent for the WIBA Middleweight Youth World Championship will co-headline the ‘’Battle At The Beach’’ set to take place at the Brighton Hilton Metropole on Saturday 4th of September 2021.

7 Tips and Strategies You Need to Know About Rugby Betting

As much as there are different forms of betting online in sports, rugby is among the most popular game that is gambled online. It offers a lot of opportunities that can generate profit for the participants. The markets range from the handicap markets to the straight match bets by first placing a bet on the scorer and the game’s first scoring. It is one of the fastest-growing sport across the globe and has a large market due to its high relativity of having many scores, making it great for betting.

There are many tips, tricks, and rules people should follow if they want to increase their chances of success. Thanks to the betting experts on Betworthy, we put together a list of basic rules for betting on rugby. Without further ado, here these are.

Basic rules to bet on rugby

For a participant to win a match, the team that they have placed a bet on has to make more scores than the opponent within the allocated time frame of 80 minutes, composed of two halves each of 40 minutes. The points of the game are score using different methods such as conversions (2 points), drop goals that earn 3 points, tries earns 5 points, and penalty kicks which earn 3 points. Therefore, one places a bet depending on different scores per method.

Betting odds

Betting on any type of sport requires one to understand the betting odds given. This allows a participant only to place bets on an informed bet with the bookmaker. This allows bettors to know what they either stand to gain or lose from their stakes. Most of the odds are listed in different ways, such as the Moneyline odds, decimal odds, and fractional odds, which are the main methods of listing odds. Once a bettor understands these Moneyline odds, they are then able to calculate the amount of profit they are likely to reap in the event they win the bet.

Rugby betting types

There are multiple bets in any sport, such as the Outright Results Betting, a popular type of bet. Most of the new bettors in rugby tend to stick to this type of bet since it is self-explanatory. With this type of bet, you are allowed to place a bet based on predicted results of a rugby match where a bettor chose the team that will win the match and places money on this team. However, if points spread betting comes in, this kind of bet might become problematic. Therefore, you can view the listed odds for both teams to establish the team favored to win and use the odd calculate the possible win.

Accumulators

Here, rugby betting becomes somehow complicated. An accumulator happens when the profit gained from the first bet is added to the consequent bet using the initial stakes. In the event that this bet wins, it is again added on the consequent bet, and the sequence continues that way. If one is expecting a five-bet accumulator, then this is referred to as fivefold. Excess of five bets is reoffered to as permutations which comprise any sort of bets which are available in these selections. This category allows for losses to occur; thus, if a single bet loses under permutation, there is still a chance of winning overall. It is an advanced category of a rugby bet.

Half Time/ Full Time

A halftime bet is one of the best straightforward types of bet different from the outright type of bet in that a bettor will stake on the team that will be leading at halftime. However, half time/full time differs from half time bet in that in a half time/full-time bet, and a bettor stakes money on the team that they think will be leading both at half time and at full time as a combination. Therefore, one can bet on the same team to lead at the end of both halves or a combination of the two teams. However, it is essential to note that a team-leading at half time does not imply it will win full-time.

Try scorer

There are a number of try scorer bets that one can bet on depending on the type that one has an interest in. for example, a bet can be placed on a player that you think will score the highest trys in a single game. Other types of bets can also be placed, such as on the player you think will score first. This necessitates that intensive research is done on a player before making such a decision.

Handicap

This type of bet makes rugby betting more fascinating. The bookmaker will offer one team a handicap in a game to make it more interesting. This type is usually applied when one time has a significantly higher stake of becoming a winner. A handicap can be placed to render the bet more even. In this manner, for the favored team to win the game, they have to win the game and overcome the handicap placed to become winners within a handicap bet type. This makes it an exciting type of bet to play, mainly where there exists disparity in skills on the two competing teams.

Over/Under

Placing a bet on the total number of scores of both teams in a rugby game is known as over/under betting. Before the beginning of the game, a bookmaker will formulate a hypothetical combined total figure of scores by the two teams. Different odds are listed, including if the two teams will score a certain number of scores combined or if the total combines scores by the two teams will either be below or exceed a certain set threshold. A bettor will therefore bet depending on their predictive scores of combined teams.

Finding the best odds

Before taking on any type of rugby bet, it is crucial to carry out sufficient research. This means a bettor will have to analyze different bookmakers by comparing the odds given for the exact matches you are seeking to bet on. This is done by examining these odds to establish which bets are likely to give you the most profit. This will enable you to know the amount of money to place in a bet.
