Coronavirus – Cancel Sky Sports, BT Sports & Eir Sports subscriptions?

So the question is should I cancel my subscription to all these paid channels when they have no live sport to cover? well, we will leave that up to you but below are the contact details.

Premiership, GAA, and Golf are cancelled for months, Master’s golf, Euro2020 are massively in doubt. Who really knows when live sport will be back on our TV channels.

Sky Sports and BT Sports

Both are now run by Sky in Ireland, so you can call 0818 762 917 but you will have to pay for another 31 days, then your subscription will be cancelled. Do that straight away as you can always sign back up in May when hopefully some live sport returns.

EIR Sports

People paying for the channel are on a rolling month by month contract so just call them on  01 430 7085 and ask to cancel. Again most customers would have had the subscription for the national hurling and football leagues which were nearly over so hopefully, it doesn’t affect the company in a detrimental way.

RACING TV

Irish racing is being run behind closed doors for the moment, so one can wait to hear any updates before being worried about this subscription.

Premier League Football suspended until at least April 3rd

The Premier League and the Scottish Premiership has been suspended until at least the April 3rd.

The Premier League says it intends to return on 4 April, “subject to medical advice and conditions at the time”.

In a statement the Premier League said: “Despite the challenges, it is the Premier League’s aim is to reschedule the displaced fixtures, including those played by Academy sides, when it is safe to do so.

“In this fast-moving environment, further updates will be provided when appropriate.”

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters: “Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19.

“In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority.”

The suspension of elite football in England means the England friendlies against Italy and Denmark, scheduled for 27 March and 31 March respectively, will not take place.

Statement from the EFL: “The FA, Premier League, EFL and Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England until 3 April at the earliest.

“This action, which will be kept under constant review, has been taken due to the increasing numbers of Clubs taking steps to isolate their players and staff because of the COVID-19 virus.

“The postponements include all matches in the Championship, League One and League Two, as well as all Academy and youth team fixtures.

“In addition, clubs are being advised to suspend indefinitely all non-essential activities which include, but are not limited to, player appearances, training ground visits and fan meetings.

“Whilst the EFL Board has continued to take the advice and guidance offered by the Government and its health advisors, emerging developments mean now is the time to implement football’s contingency plans in response to the crisis.

“A further update on these plans will be given post an EFL Board Meeting next week.

“This decision has not been taken lightly, but the EFL must prioritise the health and well-being of players, staff and supporters while also acknowledging the Government’s national efforts in tackling this outbreak.”

Ireland’s challenge also includes multiple G1 winners Delta Work (Gordon Elliott) , as well as 2018 G1 RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase victor Presenting Percy (Pat Kelly), who started the 100/30 favourite in 2019 when finishing eighth.

The Ditcheat handler has two entries in 2020 – last year’s fifth Clan Des Obeaux, who captured the G1 King George VI Chase for a second time at Kempton Park on Boxing Day, and Frodon, who scored a memorable success in the 2019 G1 Ryanair Chase under Bryony Frost.
Lostintranslation (Colin Tizzard) was pulled up behind Clan Des Obeaux at Kempton Park and has since undergone a wind operation, but had impressed previously when narrowly outgunning Bristol de Mai (Nigel Twiston-Davies) in the G1 Betfair Chase at Haydock Park in November.

Slovakia look for play-off to be postponed

Slovakia have looked for the upcoming Euro 2020 with Ireland to be postponed. This is of course due to the coronavirus.

Mick McCarthy’s side are due to travel to Bratislava on March 26th. The winners of this tie will play either Bosnia or Northern Ireland in the final. This will be for a right to play at Euro 2020. However, Slovakian government officials have now announced a closing of the countries borders expect to those from Poland to try and limit the spread of the virus.

In a statement, Peter Lazarov, a ministry spokesperson said, “No foreign citizens will be allowed to enter Slovakia”. He continued, “At the border crossings with Poland, only Polish citizens will be allowed to enter the country,”. Schools and airports will also be shut.

The Slovakian Football Association released a statement on their official website stating, “The SFZ respects all measures already taken by state authorities and institutions in relation to the spread of Covid-19”. It continued, “As the situation surrounding the spread of coronavirus and the number of infections with this virus is increasing in Slovakia and also in neighbouring European countries. The SFZ has decided along with the Central Crisis Staff in line with measures published by the Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic on social events to send a letter to UEFA”.

They said the Slovak Football Association takes full responsibility for all decisions relating to the Ireland v Slovakia game. It said it not want to risk the health of all concerned. It is obviously now looking increasingly likely that this game will not go ahead in my opinion. If it does go ahead it will be behind closed doors. But even at that I can’t see it going ahead unless there a significant improvement in the next weeks. Personally, I feel it is going to get worse before it gets better.

All GAA fixtures suspended until March 29th

National league thrown into doubt

The GAA has suspended all activity until March 29th. This announcement follows on from the government decision to close schools, colleges and childcare facilities earlier today. The suspension also includes Ladies GAA and all Club games as well as inter-county fixtures.

The gaa.ie website released a statement which stated that:

“In light of this morning’s Government announcement, the GAA, An Cumann Camógaíochta and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association have decided to suspend all activity at club, county and educational levels until March 29 (inclusive) from midnight.”

The Suspension creates uncertainty around the remaining National League fixtures. The Allianz football league has two rounds of league fixtures as well as a finals weekend remaining. While the hurling league quarter-finals were due to be played this weekend.

The month of April had been previously designated for club games. This may now change if the league fixtures are to be completed before the Championship begins.

The u20 All-Ireland football semi-finals were fixed for a doubleheader at Croke park on St.Patrick’s day. A new date will also need to be found for those games.

Coronavirus – GAA cancel Club/County training and matches

GAA have issued a statement cancelling all club and inter-county training sessions and matches until at least 29th march.

In light of this morning’s Government announcement, the GAA, An Cumann Camógaíochta and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association have decided to suspend all activity at club, county and educational levels until March 29 (inclusive) from midnight.

This is to include all games, training and team gatherings at all ages and all grades.

We will continue to liaise with Government officials and review the situation between now and the end of the month, assessing the impact of these measures on our competitions.

In the meantime, the Association is encouraging all members to continue to follow the guidelines which have been provided by the Health Authorities.

Postponed – Donegal v Tyrone: Preview, Team News and live score updates

Donegal still have a chance of reaching the league finals but they will need to win their final two games and hope results go their way for this to happen. Declan Bonner’s side sit in 5th place in the table on 5 points. They have won 2 games, lost two games and drawn one. Their most recent game ended in a 2-12 to 0-08 win over Monaghan. Players like Michael Murphy, Paddy McBrearty, Neil McGee and Ryan McHugh will be key.

Tyrone come into this game third place in the league. They have a big chance of reaching the final. A win here coupled with a win over Mayo could see them into the final depending on other results. They have played five games, winning three games. The most recent game was a good win over Dublin 1-10 to 1-07 in Omagh. However, that game shouldn’t have went ahead. Mickey Harte will look to players like Peter Harte, Darren McCurry and Tiernan McCann.

Tyrone: TBA

Betting

Donegal are favourites to win this game at odds of 8/13. Tyrone are 13/8 to win. Home advantage counts for a lot in these games so I give Donegal the edge to come out on top. They have a good record in Ballybofey also. Michael Murphy to score the first goal at 8/1 looks a fantastic bet. No live coverage of Donegal v Tyrone so be sure to check out of live score updates.

Postponed – Galway v Mayo: Preview, Team News and live score updates

Galway v Mayo takes place on Sunday at 2pm in Salthill. We have a preview, team news and betting below. We will be providing live scores of the game also from the below link.

Galway currently sit top of Division 1 with five games played, they have won four and lost one. They have a good scoring difference of +22 also which could help them if things boil down to that on Sunday. Padraic Joyce’s charges have beaten Monaghan, Donegal, Tyrone and most recently Meath 1-14 to 1-12. This will be a difficult game against old rivals Mayo but they have the players that can win the game. Players like Shane Walsh, Paul Conroy, Michael Daly and Johnny Heaney will be key to success here.

Mayo are staring down the barrel of relegation. A loss and they will be playing Division 2 football next year it is as simple at that for James Horans side. Mayo have played 5 games, losing 3, winning 1 and drawing 1. The win came against Meath very narrowly 1-9 to 2-5. Speaking ahead of the game Stephen Coen said, “I suppose in the games we have just been inconsistent,”. He continued, “I think if we just try and get as close as possible to a 70-minute performance and a solid performance all the way through, then we would be more in control and find it easier to get the two points. That’s what we are focusing on.”

Team News

Galway (FL1 V Mayo): Connor Gleeson; Seán Kelly, Séan Ó Maoilchiaráin, Johnny Heaney; Gary O’Donnell, John Daly, Cillian McDaid; Ronan Steede, Tom Flynn; Eamonn Brannigan, Damien Comer, Michael Daly; Rob Finnerty, Shane Walsh, Adrian Varley

Mayo: TBA

Betting

Galway are 8/13 to win this game, while Mayo are 7/4. For me it has to be a Galway considering the poor form of Mayo. Backing Galway -2 at 6/5 is the smart bet. There is no live coverage of Galway v Mayo so be sure to follow our score updates.
