Preview

Donegal remain unbeaten in Division 1 after recording a draw with Mayo in their opening game before beating Meath in Navan on Sunday 3-08 to 0-07. Michael Murphy impressed me in that game as did Odhran McFadden Ferry. Speaking after the win manager Declan Bonner said, “I thought the way we moved the ball for those goals was top class, and yes we should probably have had two more (Michael Murphy missed a first half penalty). But no time to rest on that, not with the challenge of Galway coming to Letterkenny next Sunday”. Patrick McBrearty could return to the side, while Michael Murphy, Ryan McHugh and Odhran McFadden will be key once again.

Galway come into the game on the back of a narrow loss to Kerry on Saturday night. The Westerners sticking with the Kingdom right up till injury time only to lose out by 1-15 to 2-11. Joyce will look to Shane Walsh who once again impressed, while there were terrific performances from Eamonn Brannigan who scored 0-03 against Kerry.

Team News

Donegal: TBA

Galway (FL1 v Donegal): Connor Gleeson; Seán Kelly, Seán Mulkerrin, Johnny Heaney; Gary O’Donnell, John Daly, Cillian McDaid; Ronan Steede, Céin D’Arcy; Eamonn Brannigan, Damien Comer, Michael Daly; Rob Finnerty, Shane Walsh, Mikey Boyle

Betting

Donegal are 4/7 to win this game, while Galway are 7/4. Donegal are strong at home and I think they will win by 2 or 3 points here.

Madden 2006 is or better said it was a revolutionary game back in a day. It introduced a Superstar Mode which made the game more popular than any similar developments. In this mode, a player would control a rookie athlete, guide him through the process, schedule interviews, complete IQ tests and all of that in order to make him a superstar. The game was released in 2006 for various platforms which include Windows, Nintendo, Sony and etc.

  • Punch-Out!!

Punch-Out!! It is the full and real name of this game, so marks are mandatory in this case scenario. The main fact why the game was so popular and why it is so important is the presence of Mike Tyson. Many will claim that the game made him as popular as he will ever be. Other than this, we can mention that the game was developed by Nintendo for Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1987. It is filled with adrenaline and stunning punches.

  • MVP Baseball 2005

The game was released in 2005 for Sony lay Station, Game Cube, Windows and several other platforms. It allows gamers to play an owner mode. Here you are responsible for controlling little league franchises, completely. You could even change the color of your stadium if you didn’t like the old color. Although sound perfect, the game was stable and appealing to play although there were some minor bugs in the first versions. Yes, there are bigger leagues present in the game as well. Players can pick the one they like and go with suitable and corresponding gaming. The game was developed by EA Vancouver and considered one of the best games of this kind.

  • NBA 2K11

NBA 2K11 is a game released in 2010 for PS 2, PS 3, Windows and also Xbox 360. You could play this game on Sony PSP as well. The game is popular and it has been desirable development thanks to the better graphics than similar titles, much more sophisticated my player section and the fact it used more appropriate engine. What this means is that AI opponents play more realistically and make gaming better, obviously. This game was sold in over 5.5 million copies. In a nutshell, the game offered more realistic gaming, better features, and more demanding opponents. Countless new controls were introduced to the game and all combined made the game so appealing.

  • Snowboard Super Cross 3

Snowboard Super Cross 3 offers new and more appealing tricks, better graphics, more cameras and more possibilities for the players. It was released in 2003 for Game Boy Advance, Xbox One, Gamer Cube, and Sony PlayStation. The game was developed by EA Canada and became a successful title we all liked to play. It wasn’t the first game of its kind, but it offered all the right ingredients and animations that were breathtaking.

  • Mario Tennis 64

Mario Tennis 64 game must be on any list. It was released in 2000 and it was designed by Shūgo Takahashi. The developers were Camelot Software Planning and Nintendo. Compatibility is therefore limited and gamers were able to play this game on Game Boy Color and Nintendo 64 only. No other platforms were supported. The game was different and probably more special than any other. There is no need to include the obvious. This is a tennis game only and yes you would play with Mario’s character. The gaming is better thanks to clever control mechanisms. You would use A and B buttons to send the ball in specific directions. Players will also use a combination of other buttons and pressing A and B at the same time to make more complicated movements and shoots.

Conclusion

These 8 games were epic and they still are. They are stunning due to so many reasons. You would play any sport you like, you were able to advance and to become better in the league and so much more. We did have an impossible task on our hands, but we hope to have it completed successfully. All the games here were sold in million and million copies and they made children from all parts of the globe perfectly happy.

Predicted Ireland XV to play Wales

With the Ireland squad expected to be announced on Tuesday we have decided to do a predicted Ireland XV to play Wales. Most of the teams remains the same but there are some changes to the line-up. Let’s take a look below.

Caelan Dorris is a doubt, he is currently going through HIA protocols. Garry Ringrose is almost certainly out after he had a procedure on his hand.  Tadhg Furlong came off on 77 minutes, he had severe cramp. He should be passed fit though.

In the front row, I expect it to stay the same as per the Scottish game. That means Furlong, Herring and Healy will all start. Iain Henderson gets the nod ahead of Devin Toner again for me, the Ulster man will partner James Ryan. The first change I can see is Peter O’Mahony coming in, this will likely be instead of Dorris. I expect O’Mahony to start at number 6. Stander will likely play at number 8 after an impressive man of the match performance against Scotland. Josh Van Der Flier is a shoe in to start at number 7. Many of the players watch the big bash cricket in the mornings, its always nice to have look at the Online Cricket betting to see who is fancied to win the matches.

For me John Cooney has to get the nod ahead of Conor Murray here. Whether he does or not is another matter. Sexton will continue at fly-half. On the wings Keith Earls will likely return but he may have to settle for a place on the bench. Jacob Stockdale and Andrew Conway are likely to occupy the positions. In the centre, Robbie Henshaw will now likely be starting at centre due to Ringrose been out injured. This would mean a place on the bench for Chris Farrell or Stuart McCloskey. Bundee Aki will also start in the centre. Jordan Larmour did well against Scotland so it is likely he will retain his place at full back.

Predicted Ireland XV to play Wales

15 Jordan Larmour, 14 Andrew Conway, 13, Robbie Henshaw, 12 Bundee Aki, 11 Jacob Stockdale, 10 Johnny Sexton, 9 John Cooney, 8 CJ Stander, 7 Josh Van Der Flier, 6 Peter O;Mahony, 5 James Ryan, 4 Iain Henderson, 3 Tadhg Furlong, 2 Rob Herring, 1 Cian Healy.

Are esports real sports

Our readers now that we cover a wide range of sports, particularly those that are popular in Ireland. It doesn’t matter whether you’re more of a rugby fan, or soccer is your cup of tea, we have it covered.

This time we want to draw your attention to one interesting type of sports, or to be very precise and particular – a type of competitively played games that are considered sports by some, but there is no general consensus on that. Namely, we’re talking about esports. Yes, the name would imply that they are sports, but there’s also the argument that the use of the letter ‘e’ at the beginning definitely shows that these types of games aren’t sports or sporting activities.

There are arguments both for and against, quite compelling arguments at that, which is probably why it is so difficult to decide once and for all, unequivocally, whether esports are real sports. We aren’t going to reach a final verdict, of course, but we will have a look at the arguments for and against and let you decide. It is a matter of perspective really.

The aim is to win

Both sports and esports are competitive and participants aim to win, so that’s perhaps the most important shared feature between the two families of games. But then, it is fair to note that sports and esports aren’t the only types of games that are competitive, card games are competitive as well.

There is one notable difference though, namely in esports and sports players can actively and effectively have an impact on the outcome i.e. winning is up to them, up to their skills and the effort they put in the game.

Games of chance vs games of skills

Those who are familiar with slots, bingo, fantasy sports and other gambling-related activities are surely aware of the distinction between games of chance and games of skill. Games of skill are those where more skilled players stand a better chance of winning. In other words, if you can define the required skills needed for a win, regardless whether the skills in question are physical or mental, then that game can be played competitively. That’s why there are poker tournaments, but no slot tournaments. Although, there are some new online slots where the choice that you make during gameplay can make a difference, so in that sense skill is involved. Still, let’s go back to sports and esports.

One curious case – chess

Now, we’ve established that esports can be played competitively. One of the arguments usually presented by proponents of the classical understanding of sports according to which esports aren’t sports is that the field, or pitch where the game is played is virtual, plus players aren’t using their hands and legs, they’re using keyboards, joysticks etc.

As for the first argument from the paragraph above, yes, that is one of the strongest and most compelling arguments against the understanding that esports are sports. Yes, there is no physical field or area where a game is played, but if you look at traditional sports, there are great differences between the type of surfaces where different games are played, for instance, is it possible to compare football and darts? Furthermore, there is one sport that makes things even more complicated – chess.

Chess is played on a board, but you can play it on a computer and there would be no actual difference. And while there are few people who wouldn’t call chess a sport, it is generally accepted that chess is indeed a sport.

Esports are highly competitive and require high levels of coordination

While simply pointing that chess is also a sport might be the considered an argument strong enough to conclude that esports are also sports, we should actually look at the arguments in favour of esports as such.

First of all, esports are as competitive as conventional sports. There are professional teams, there are leagues and tournaments with prizes and players spend a lot of their time preparing for games and tournaments.

There’s even audience, fans of teams and players and lately, venues where esports competitions take place are usually sold out with viewers watching the games on big screens while cheering for their favourites. Even the Staples Center in LA has been sold out for esports events on numbers of occasions.

Finally, let’s go through the key argument. Esports athletes often achieve up to 400 actions on their keyboards and mice in a minute, which is four times what a normal person can usually achieve. It requires a high degree of coordination, as the both hands are moved at the same time, not to mention that different parts of the brain are also active simultaneously.

Many of the coaches who work with esports teams come form sporting backgrounds and have worked with athletes such as basketball players, volleyball players and so on. Still, it is fair to admit that one doesn’t need to be in a peak physical condition to be an esports athlete, it requires little athleticism. On the other hand, darts players don’t have to be too athletic either.

In the end, some people will never accept esports as sports, but millions of fans from all over the world tune in to watch their favourite Dota2, League of Legends, or CS:GO players and teams on a regular basis and that’s all that matters.

Why Archery Should Be On Your Bucket List Of Sports To Try Once

Traditionally, archery was used for hunting and combat. Using bows to shoot arrows was first invented by the Ancient Egyptians around 20,000 BC. This activity was eventually adopted in China, Japan, and several Middle Eastern countries. It was only during 1483 when archery was turned into a recreational activity, which was first played in Belgium and became a modern sport in the 1840s.

Although one of the oldest sports that came into existence, archery still continues to become more and more popular. In fact, according to statistics, over 7.77 million people in the world practice archery.

Aside from its growing popularity, archery should be part of your bucket list because of the following reasons:

  1. You Can Play It Anytime

There are a lot of physical activities you can try out today. You can sweat by playing different kinds of sports, such as volleyball, badminton, or running. Sure, these activities might be common and easy to learn, but these require certain weather conditions.

Badminton, for example, requires sunny weather with minimal winds. You won’t be able to toss or hit the shuttlecock if it’s raining and too windy outdoors.

You won’t have this kind of problem when you choose to take up archery. This is an “anytime” sport, which means that you can play it indoors or outdoors, anytime you want to.

Is the weather outside perfect for outdoor activities? Set up your practice shooting range in your backyard. Are you expecting strong winds and heavy rains in your area for months? Invest in the best archery target and practice indoors.

  1. It’s Accessible And Cheap

You need the right gear and equipment in order to take up archery, but this doesn’t mean that you have to spend a lot of money before trying out the sport.

If you’re still testing the waters and trying out archery for the first time, you can always borrow gear and equipment from people who play the sport. As mentioned, archery is very popular today, so it’s easy to find one or two people whom you can borrow archery gear and equipment from.

Aside from this, you can also rent from archery ranges that provide beginner training sessions. These facilities serve as shooting areas for recreation and competitions, so expect that they’ll offer several bows and arrows for rent.

Since necessary archery gear and equipment are accessible, taking up the sport is cheap and easy. You can decide to buy your own bows and arrows once you actually see yourself enjoying the sport.

  1. New Challenges

Familiarity breeds boredom. The more accustomed you are in doing a certain activity, the more boring it can be. There’s no challenge in repeating the same activities over and over again.

Where’s the thrill if you already memorized the dos and dont’s of a specific activity?

Archery always introduces new adaptations, allowing you to ward off boredom. If you have already mastered the basics of archery, you can better enhance your skills by participating in competitions. Aside from the challenge, competitions are effective avenues for you to learn tips and tricks from the experts.

If competitions no longer excite you, try out archery with moving targets, 3D targets, or even archery golf. With the number of pros playing archery, you can guarantee that this sport will always have something to offer that’ll continually challenge your techniques!

  1. Molds Your Discipline And Focus

Unlike other types of sports, archery isn’t about who’s the strongest or fastest; archery is actually a sport that demands skills. With the number of shooting techniques one can use today, you need to assess which technique is suitable to the range you’re currently in.

Another reason why you should include archery in your bucket list is that the sport can teach you a lot of discipline and focus.

Here’s how:

  • To play effectively in archery, you need to follow the proper stance, and determine when and how you’re going to release the arrow from the bow. Following the necessary steps before you can release the bow requires focus.

  • Self-discipline is also practiced in archery because whenever you commit mistakes when shooting your target, for example, you need to assess why you didn’t hit your target.

If you’re performing poorly in archery, you’ll have to determine the factors that triggered this performance and make sure that these won’t affect your performance in the future. Thus, you need to have the discipline to change your ways and improve for the better in order to excel in the sport.

Learn As A Beginner

There are different ways on how you can learn archery. You can choose to learn archery on your own, have a professional teach you, or enroll in archery schools.

Regardless of how you plan to learn archery, make sure that you exert time and effort to practice the activity. Use reliable resources (videos, articles, professional advice), and apply what you learned. Don’t forget to take breaks as straining your mind and body will only delay your progress to become a better archer!

Division 1 Camogie Round Up

The Littlewoods Ireland Division 1 Camogie got underway this weekend and we have a round up of all the games. Let’s take a look of these below.

In Group 2 defending league champions Galway got off to a winning start beating a tough Dublin challenge at Blanchardstown. The Westerners coming out on top 0-10 to 0-07 in the end. In a low scoring game it was scores from Rebecca Hennelly (2), Catriona Cormican and Sarah Healy a three point advantage in the second quarter. Dublin finished the first half stronger though as Sinead Wylde got a nice couple of scores to leave it 0-05 to 0-03 at the break in favour of Galway.

Dublin got within a point of Galway on the resumption. However, Galway an experienced side registered scores through Niamh Kilkenny and Carrie Dolan. However, with 40 minutes on the clock Wylde and Finnegan had the gap back down to one. It was Cathal Murray’s side though that had the final say as scores from Hennelly (two frees) and Healy sealed a three point win.

Tipperary had a narrow 1 point win over Limerick in the other Group 2 game. The Premier women winning 0-10 to 1-06 in the end. Bill Mullaney’s side however went in level at the break level 0-06 to 1-03 despite playing with the wind advantage. Cait Devane put in an exhibition of point taking with five points, Nicole Walsh also registering one. Limerick scores came from a Rebecca Delee goal and three points from Caoimhe Costelloe. Neamh Cusrtin and Costelloe knocked over points for Limerick in the second half, but Devane levelled matters, before Ciardha Maher won the match for the Premier.

In Group 1 Clare recorded a 7 point win over Offaly in Birr. Mairead Teehan got an Offaly goal, however the Banner responded to that with Eimear Kelly rattling in a major. Robyn Conway and Eimear Kelly registered points to leave it 1-05 to 1-03 at the break. Aine O’Loughlin added a goal in the second half for Clare, while Eimear Kelly added two further points as Clare went on to win.

Also in Group Cork recorded a 1-18 to 0-12 win over Waterford at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Saoirse McCarthy got a first half goal for Cork, it was 1-10 to 0-08 at the break. Orla Cronin landed a couple of nice scores, as did Beth Carton for the Deise. Ashling Thompson, Chloe Sigerson, Orla Cronin and Lauren Homan added further scores in the second half for Paudie Murray’s charges.

That completes this weekends Division 1 camogie round up with thanks to the Camogie Association.

Division 1 Hurling: Shane Bennett stars for Waterford in win over Westmeath

Shane Bennett was the star for Waterford in a 3-18 to 1-15 win over Westmeath in Mullingar. Westmeath to their credit gave it their all but ultimately the quality on offer for Na Deise shown through.

Waterford had the aid of the wind in the opening period. However, it took Liam Cahill’s side a while to settle in. It took 8 minutes for a score to be marked off on the scoreboard. Iarlaith Daly knocking over a point, Eoin Price got Westmeath’s first score of the game and by the 11th minute it was 0-03 to 0-01 to the Deise. Waterford pushed on with Stephen Bennett to the fore with frees. The Ballysaggart man pounced for a goal just before the 20th minute. However Westmeath hit back and the gap was back down to five after 26 minutes, 1-08 to 0-06. Then came the Waterford purple patch, they hit 2-02 in the space of a few minutes. Jack Fagan tapping into an empty net, while Stephen Bennett also grabbing his second major of the day. Waterford ahead at the break 3-10 to 0-06.

Patrick Curran stretched the gap further on the resumption. However, Niall Mitchell and Ciaran Doyle made it 3-11 to 0-08. Bennett had the gap out to 13, before Mitchell got the Lake County’s only goal of the game on 54 minutes. Doyle, a scorer of four second half points added another white flag, as did Shane McGovern. Bennett replied for Waterford. Pauric Mahony and Patrick Curran knocked over scores in response to a Doyle effort from play. Waterford should have added two further goals to their tally. However, Waterford Stephen Bennett’s 64th minute penalty was saved by Aaron McHugh. He also had a goal disallowed for a square ball infringement. Westmeath scored the last three points of the game with Allan Devine (2) and Ciaran Doyle, Westmeath winning the second half 1-09 to 0-08. At least some hope for Westmeath going forward on their second half performance.

Division 1: Donegal put Meath to the sword in Navan

Donegal put Meath to the sword in Navan in an emphatic 3-08 to 0-07 win. Michael Murphy once again proved his worth to the Declan Bonner side registering 1-02 on the scoreboard.

The sides have gotten used to playing each other over the last few years. Donegal and Meath met three times in 2019 with Donegal winning all three. It was Andy McEntee’s men though that made a brighter start than the Tir Chonaill men. They raced into a 0-04 to 0-01 lead. Tom O’Reilly kicked the opening score for Meath, before David Toner scored a sublime score. Cillian O’Sullivan and Bryan McMahon extended the lead before Donegal finally on the scoreboard. Donegal then had a penalty saved by Meath goalkeeper Marcus Brennan. Michael Murphy shot to the right was well saved. It was all Donegal from here as Meath wouldn’t score till the 40th minute.

Ciaran Thompson pointed for the visitors, before Donegal’s first goal arrived through Odhran McFadden-Ferry on 28 minute. The Gweedore man riffled an effort in past Brennan. Donegal had another goal on 33 minutes. Michael Murphy this time on target finishing to the goalkeeper’s right. A low scoring half 2-02 to 0-04.

On 39 minutes Donegal got their third goal of the game courtesy of Michael Langan. It all came from some superb play from Ryan McHugh who broke clear down the left wing, before throwing a dummy. He then found Langan who palmed the ball to the net. Jamie Brennan and Langan added points, before Niall O’Donnell and 2012 All-Ireland winning captain Michael Murphy finished off the scoring to give Donegal a deserving 10 point win as they put Meath to the sword.

Next up for Donegal is a game with Galway in Letterkenny, while for Meath they will face Mayo in what is already looking like a big game for the Royals if they are to stay in the top flight in 2021.

Donegal: Shaun Patton; Eoin Ban Gallagher, Neil McGee, Odhran McFadden Ferry (1-00); Caolan Ward, Conor O’Donnell, Eoin McHugh; Hugh McFadden (0-01), Michael Langan (1-01); Paul Brennan, Ryan McHugh, Ciaran Thompson (0-01, 0-01f); Peadar Mogan, Michael Murphy (1-02, 1-00 pen, 0-02f), Jamie Brennan (0-02).

Subs: Andrew McClean for E McHugh (50), Niall O’Donnell (0-01) for Mogan (55), Brendan McCole for McFadden Ferry (55), Jeaic McKelvey for McFadden (67), Ciaran Diver for P Brennan (71).

Meath: Marcus Brennan; Robin Clarke, Conor McGill, David Toner (0-01); James McEntee, Brian Conlon, Donal Keogan; Bryan Menton, Ronan Jones; Mathew Costello, Bryan McMahon (0-01, 0-01f), Eamon Wallace; Cillian O’Sullivan (0-02, 0-02f), Thomas O’Reilly (0-03), Joey Wallace.

Subs: Ben Brennan for Costello (h/t), Ethan Devine for E Wallace (48), Ronan Ryan for Conlon (55), Sean Tobin for J Wallace (62), James Conlon for McMahon (62).
