4 Basic Concepts: How to Survive in Sports Betting

Sports betting is a known entertainment industry. It is evident since ancient times where sports are merely bloodbath. Man versus man in an arena where audiences bet for who would slay the other while the rulers keeping themselves entertained. However, modern-day sports betting has a wide variety and has less to none bloody scenes. To name a few, we have boxing, basketball, football, car racing, horse racing, etc.

Sports evolved and finding which game is worth your money is a personal matter. Your reason for betting also matters. Most bettors bet to have fun and others to earn. Hence, their survival in the sports betting world becomes a personal matter as well.

If you plan to engage yourself in sports betting, whether to have fun or to gain profit or both, you need to know how to survive. Meaning, you need to know the basics of sports betting then you’ll be fine moving forward. To help you understand these things, here are four (4) basic concepts of sports betting that you should know.

  1.   Having General Knowledge of the Sport

Sports knowledge is the most basic concept that you should consider. You cannot bet without knowing at least one or two things about the matter at hand. Thus, it will help you even more if you find time researching necessary information about the sport you would want to go on betting in the future. In this way, you will be able to maximize your odds.

For instance, if you are aiming on how to place your Kentucky Derby bet, you need to know which horse has the best chance of winning the race. It may include examining the conditioning of the horses or checking on previous results. The top 3 contenders can be your choices. Make sure to get the information you needed, and you would be on your way getting the best out of betting.

  1.   Defining Value

It is essential for people, who plan to be successful in sports betting, to have an understanding of the concept of value. For instance, in choosing a wager, considering the “value” is somewhat necessary. In other words, a wager with no “value” does not worth a bet. Some who do not know would just bet for the sake of betting without knowing that the wager chosen is of lesser value.

However, the scenario presented above is true for bettors who want to gain profit. If your value lies in the entertainment that sports betting gives, then that is how you should go moving forward. People bet for different reasons, and within those reasons, the definition of value resides. Hence, identifying which of your “value” you care more will help you enjoy the rest of your sports betting experience.

  1.   Knowing the Betting Options

Knowing the betting options is essential. To better understand its importance, you need to know the various options available. For example, the TVG Horse Racing allows you to bet on horses of your liking. You can check on its online betting sites and see the betting options yourself.

  1.   Knowledge about Betting Strategies

Betting strategies are the things that make betting more interesting. The help you need to sustain and have a successful betting experience lies between you and how you will manage to apply these effective betting strategies. For instance, betting on the crowd favorite does not guarantee a win. It may help you at times, but it is not always the right path to take.

Hence, the list is endless if we talk about betting “strategies.” Indeed, these strategies are hard to master. It takes time and money; since you will need to fail to learn. Your mistakes will give you an idea of what approach you will use the next time around; thus, you will then devise a strategy which will help you increase your odds of winning. Patience can be one of your considerations.

Takeaway

Sports betting, in general, is a mix of fun, excitement, thrill, disappointments, loss, and other emotions connected to success and failure. Knowing the basic concepts of sports betting, however, will help you lessen the negatives. Value, sports knowledge, betting options, betting strategies constitute the things you need to be aware of if you wish to engage in sports betting. Know what you value, learn the “sport,” know your options, and apply strategies so that when you bet for the first time, the success and failure can be both acceptable.

Remember, a worthwhile betting experience is not the one which you would always win. Sometimes experiencing some losses makes things more interesting!

McCarthy may surprise the bookies

Mick McCarthy was appointed the manager of the Republic of Ireland for a second time in his career back in November 2018, replacing Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane, whose five-year reign came to an end.

His task was simple: get Ireland qualified for Euro 2020 before handing over the mantle to current U21 manager, Stephen Kenny.

McCarthy, whose first spell in charge of Ireland ran between 1996 and 2002, only signed a two-year contract with the FAI on the premise that Kenny, who resigned as manager of Dundalk to lead Ireland’s Under-21s, would graduate to the senior team when McCarthy leaves.

The unusual arrangement was the FAI’s attempt to satisfy their dual objectives of qualifying for Euro 2020 while planning for the development of Irish football beyond that. So, this is likely to be McCarthy’s last managerial stint at international level, and he will be keen to go out with a bang and lead Ireland into the Euro 2020 tournament next year, before bowing out with his head held high.

On his appointment last year, McCarthy said: “If we do really well, and we get to the (Euro 2020) final and win it, there might be a push for me to stay and there might also be a job in the Premier League, and I might want to move on there. And if I do badly and we don’t qualify, you won’t want me anyway. I hope I’ll leave a good squad and a good team behind and (Kenny) can go and try to qualify for the World Cup in 2022.”

The appointment of McCarthy was not welcomed by all Irish football fans who have been critical in the past of the defensive style of football his sides usually play. Ask a few Ipswich Town fans what they think. Yet Ireland currently top Euro qualifying Group D and his unpopular brand of football might just have helped them grind out important draws against their main challengers in the group, Switzerland and Denmark.

Despite being unbeaten after five group games, the bookies still don’t rate Ireland’s chances of qualifying for Euro 2020 though and have both the Swiss and the Danes as favourites to be part of next year’s tournament instead.

Ireland began their qualifying campaign with an unremarkable 1-0 win in Gibraltar, Jeff Hendrick’s strike the only difference between the two sides, which was then followed up with another 1-0 success, this time against Georgia in Dublin; Conor Hourihane with the solitary goal.

Two uninspiring opening wins but wins none-the-less, and clean sheets which will have delighted McCarthy. However, his defensive style would prove crucial in their third qualifying game when they returned from Denmark with an excellent 1-1 draw to maintain top spot in Group D. Despite going behind to a Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg strike on 76 minutes, Shane Duffy was on hand to grab a crucial equaliser with just five minutes left to give the Irish what could prove to be a very important point.

They were then able to build on that result with a 2-0 defeat of Gibraltar in Dublin three days later – although again it was a far from emphatic performance. Ireland had to rely on an own goal to send them in at half-time ahead before Robbie Brady made sure of the win in injury time.

When Ireland welcomed Group D favourites, Switzerland, to the Aviva Stadium, it was once again a strong defensive display that earnt them another crucial point. It was also a near carbon copy performance to the one in Copenhagen; the Irish went 1-0 down to a Fabian Schar strike with around 15 minutes to play, but it was David McGoldrick who grabbed the equaliser this time, again with just five minutes left on the clock.

It might not always be the most thrilling football to watch, but McCarthy’s defensive line-ups had snatched two draws that could be very significant come the final stages of the group. And with Denmark still to visit Dublin in November, it could be argued that Ireland have qualification in their own hands. It is this fixture that looks like being the one that will decide who will join likely group winners, Switzerland, at Euro 2020 next year.

Dublin is also one of the Euro 2020 host cities, so it will be a very special tournament. One thing is for sure: Mick McCarthy will relish the tag of underdogs and the prospect of proving his detractors wrong.

Countdown begins for the Mixed Ability Rugby World Cup in Ireland

The preparations to host the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament (IMART) in Ireland in June next year have commenced. This will be the 3rd edition of the worldwide Mixed Ability rugby showcase promoted by International Mixed Ability Sports (IMAS), which will take place in Cork between the 7th and 12th of June 2020.

750 players with and without disabilities,  from 24 teams and 12 different countries such as England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Canada, Argentina and New Zealand will come together to play rugby under same World Rugby laws as the XV a side game with only minor adaptations such as uncontested scrums.

5 years ago two men (Alan Craughwell and Liam Maher) came together, after a chance meeting, to form the first mixed ability rugby team in Ireland – the Sundays Well Rebels.

On the back of this they have accomplished great things:

  • The Sundays Well Rebels won the first ever International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament (IMART) Rugby World Cup held in 2015
  • They pitched for & won the chance to host the next IMART Rugby World Cup which is coming to Cork in June 2020
  • The fought for recognition from Ireland’s national rugby body, the IRFU – which they were recently granted
  • The no. of mixed ability teams in Ireland has grown

The Mixed Ability Model encourages social inclusion by removing barriers to participation for people who feel unable to join mainstream grassroots clubs or groups due to physical or learning disabilities, mental health issues, size, shape, age, prolonged inactivity, or a perception of ‘not being good enough’.

Alan Craughwell, founder of the first Mixed Ability rugby team in Ireland, ‘Sunday’s Well Rebels’, and Day Service Manager with Cope Foundation

Mixed Ability rugby and Mixed Ability sports are providing real opportunities for people with and without disabilities to experience social inclusion. Working with people with disabilities, I know how important social inclusion is and how detrimental any exclusion and loneliness can be to someone’s wellbeing. In addition to this the IMART ethos is beneficial to all involved – it’s inspiring to see the lads learn so much about each other when level the playing field. These guys just see themselves as one team and you can’t buy that!”

Liam Maher, Manager of the Sunday’s Well Rebels

“Since I first spoke to Alan about mixed ability rugby my life has genuinely not been the same. I don’t have any first-hand experience with disability affecting myself or my family, so it’s not something I ever really considered. But my involvement with the Rebels has been the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.”

Peter O’Mahony, Munster Rugby Captain

I’m proud to support the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament coming to Ireland for the first time. Mixed Ability gives everybody the opportunity to be a rugby player regardless of size, shape or ability. This is an incredible opportunity to celebrate our core values, welcoming teams from around the world to experience our legendary Irish hospitality!”

It is hoped that the IMART Tournament in Cork next year will enhance interest, participation and interaction of people of all abilities in the sport across Ireland and beyond, and help to build new connections between grassroots clubs, educational institutions, communities and local authorities.

Liam Maher, Manager of the Sunday’s Well Rebels, spoke of their plans to showcase all that Cork has to offer to the 750 strong participants, as well as organisers and spectators who will flock to the event.

We have worked tirelessly with the IRFU, Munster Rugby, Cork City Council, IMAS, and others in an effort to bring this event to Cork. There has been a lot of work in the background – not just in preparing the bid for this global tournament, but in getting recognised for IMART as an official rugby sport. We have been in talks with the IRFU since the Rebels were set up in 2014, and thankfully we have recently received much-deserved recognition for this forward-thinking, inclusive and inspiring sport.

We’re exceptionally proud that Cork has been chosen to host IMART 2020. The tournament will bring together some of the finest Mixed Ability rugby teams in the world and will attract in the region of 750 international participants for the week-long competition. Cork won the bid in part due to Ireland’s international reputation as a rugby power-house, but also because we have reputation in Mixed Ability sport.  Mixed Ability is about valuing everyone’s potential and celebrating what’s at the heart of true sport – participation, passion and fun!”

Darren Randolph fitness boost for Republic of Ireland

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Darren Randolph handed Mick McCarthy a European Championship boost when he stepped up his training with the squad at the FAI National Training Centre on Saturday, ahead of Monday night’s clash with Denmark.

Randolph was back in the Middlesbrough team last weekend after a spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury and had worked mostly in the gym prior to Saturday’s return to the training ground.

“I said we’d wrap Darren Randolph in cotton wool ahead of the Denmark match and we’ve almost been true to my word,” laughed Ireland boss Mick McCarthy after the penultimate session before the Denmark tie.

“He wasn’t involved for the New Zealand win on Thursday night and he’s done most of his work in the gym this week so it was great to see him working on the pitch today.

“Like everyone else in the squad, Darren is fit and rearing to go and he can’t wait for the game now.”

McCarthy and his players watched Denmark’s 6-0 win over Gibraltar after dinner on Friday night with the manager also keeping an eye on Switzerland’s 1-0 victory against Georgia.

The Ireland manager told FAI.ie: “The results on Friday were exactly as expected but with Switzerland-Georgia being such a close game, I did cheer that late Switzerland goal as it means a one goal win will do us on Monday.

“Denmark will be happy with their result but we knew before their game that we’d have to beat them and that’s still the case. Nothing has changed.”

Sports Betting: How Does It Work?

It is believed that betting on sports appeared in ancient Rome, when both noble people and plain folk made bets on gladiator games, chariot and horse racing. Nowadays, bets on almost any sports are accepted, from boxing and football to darts and cybersports. Moreover, bettors can learn about current events in many sports on specialized web-platforms like https://mybetbuddy.com/.

But how does it work? Plenty of modern bettors place bets through mobile applications or betting sites, where, basically, everything is intuitive. However, it is not the case for a person who is out of touch with online betting.

How to calculate winnings? Let’s say a certain bet has odds of 2.70, while your bet is £100. You need to multiply the odds by the betting amount and take away the money you wagered. In our case, the win is £270 and the profit is £170.

How are betting odds formed? Each sporting event is analyzed by bookmakers before they start predicting on which outcomes people will be betting the most.

Betting odds are the probabilities of all outcomes. They can be calculated by a simple formula: it is necessary to divide 100% by a probability indicator. For example, the probability that the team “A” will score a goal to the team “B” in the first half of a match is 25%. Accordingly, the coefficient is 4.00.

And what is a margin? If we add up all the odds set up by a bookie for one game or competition, the final figure will turn out to exceed 100% – let’s say, it makes up 110%. In this case, the excessive 10% is the bookmaker’s margin. To put it simply, it is a guaranteed bookie’s income.

What to do to be on the plus side? Experienced bettors often avoid bets with low odds because they don’t guarantee wins, while to make up for one loss with 1.20 odds, you need to have five equivalent bets won.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Deserves More Time and Here’s Why

The chants of ‘Ole’s at the Wheel’ throughout the ‘HoneyMoon’ period gave goosebumps to any United fan, the flashbacks to the ‘Golden Years’ of Sir Alex Ferguson, the fast rapid play, the counter-attacking football right from the gecko set Solskjaer’s journey as United Manager.

The dramatic 3-1 win vs PSG in the Champions league set pen to paper for Solskjaer’s dream job as gaffer.

Since the dramatic win, United have played 22 games winning five, drawing seven and losing ten. Drawing a spotlight toward Solskjaer and raising the question should he remain the manager of Manchester United. Any betting guide would suggest they are in bad form and not a team in good form.

Recent Form:

Recent form would suggest that no he should get the sacking but behind the scenes, there is much more. The injury crisis is well known and Solskjaer has only been able to play his starting 11 once this season with 10 of his first-team squad on the sidelines. Solskjaer has stated on many occasions that there will be “bumps in the road” and “ups and downs”. Recently some of these bumps have been bigger than anticipated with the recent 1-0 loss to Newcastle and 0-0 draw against AZ Alkmaar. Manchester United fans would be forgiven for believing they had more chances of winning some money on kodyzaklady.pl rather than suffer defeat at St James’ Park, but such is the bad form at United at present.

A lack of confidence and creating chances is clear, the players are unable to present an identity to their football and can’t establish themselves. A huge part of Manchester United is their identity of football the fast-paced, counter-attacking football that has been lost since the PSG Victory.

The Summer Signings:

Aaron Wan Bissaka and Harry Maguire were brought in to strengthen the defensive backline. It’s clear that the defensive backline looks more solid and compact but at times they lose themselves and look lost, is this due to bad tactics or a lack of confidence?

Daniel James was brought it to seemingly be a squad player but with his starting form, he has become a weekly starter and seems to be the prospect United fans hoped for. The fast rapid Welshman was a great buy and really shows the start of something Solskjaer is building.

Patience:

In recent years United have sacked three managers. Each manager got a lack of funds and backing by the board but also had a lack of patience from the fans and the board.

Solskjaer is a fan favourite and will always receive love from the fans but he needs patience more than anything right now. Already given a difficult job, add an injury crisis and a lack of midfielders brought in the summer and you the big ups and downs he had mentioned previously.

Solskjaer is guaranteed to be backed in January and is only a few injury recoveries and signings away from bringing back that football we all loved throughout the honeymoon period.

Patience is key in football and the man who brought back identity and action to Manchester United deserves a chance.

Division 1 Football Final Kerry v Mayo Preview, Team News and live score updates

Kerry v Mayo, Sunday, 4.00pm. Croke Park

The final game on the triple header in Croke Park on Sunday is the Allianz League Football Final between Kerry and Mayo. It’s a novel pairing considering Dublin have reached the final for the 7 or 8 years so it will good for the neutral supporter.

Click LoveGAA.com for live updates

Kerry has been the form team in the league in my opinion. Results speak for themselves. It’s Peter Keane’s first year in charge and he has done an amazing job so far full credit must go to him. They played 7 games in Division 1, just losing 1, winning 6. The loss came to Mayo on Paddy’s weekend on home soil, they will want to gain revenge for that I’m sure. Mayo finished second in the standings in Division 1, winning 5 and losing 2. Losses came to Galway and Dublin. However, they have shown they are still one of the best sides in the country. The performance against Monaghan was superb scoring 3-15 also.

The game in Croke Park, in my opinion, will suit Kerry. They have a lot of quick players in attack that will love the space and freedom to run and attack with the ball. In defence players like Jack Sherwood, Peter Crowley, Paul Murphy and Tom O’Sullivan will be expected to have massive games. In attack they have an abundance of talent Tommy Walsh is a target man for the high ball at full forward, while Dave Clifford and James O’Donoghue’s on the corner forward positions would give any full back line fear. Looking at James Horan’s Mayo they are in a league and they will want to win it no doubt to take home silverware. In defence Chris Barrett, Paddy Durcan and Brendan Harrison will be key. Colm Boyle and Keith Higgins missed the win over Monaghan if they are fully fit they will obviously start. Aidan O’Shea has had a good year to date and he will be expected to drive Mayo on, while in attack Fergal Boland, Diarmuid O’Connor and Kevin McLoughlin will be expected to come up trumps with the scores.

Team News

Kerry (FL1 final v Mayo): Shane Ryan; Peter Crowley, Jack Sherwood, Graham O’Sullivan; Gavin Crowley, Paul Murphy, Tom O’Sullivan; Jack Barry, Diarmuid O’Connor; Dara Moynihan, Sean O’Shea, Stephen O’Brien; David Clifford, Tommy Walsh, Kevin McCarthy

Mayo (FL1 final v Kerry): Rob Hennelly; Chris Barrett, Brendan Harrison, Keith Higgins; Paddy Durcan, Lee Keegan, Donal Vaughan; Matthew Ruane, Aidan O’Shea; Fergal Boland, Jason Doherty, Diarmuid O’Connor; Kevin McLoughlin, Darren Coen, James Carr

Betting

Kerry are 8/15 and Mayo are 15/8. The draw is 15/2. I really fancy Kerry to win here. Sean O’Shea to get man of the match and Kerry to win by 2 or 3 points.

Verdict: Kerry
